We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler Jay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyler, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
One piece of conventional advice that I disagree with in the business and entrepreneurial world is the notion that “failure is not an option.” While it’s important to strive for success and do your best to avoid failure, the idea that failure is entirely unacceptable can be counterproductive.

In reality, failure is often a part of the entrepreneurial journey. It’s through failure that we learn, adapt, and sometimes even pivot in a way that leads to greater success. Many successful entrepreneurs and businesses have experienced setbacks and failures before achieving their goals.

I believe that a more balanced approach is to accept that failure may happen and to view it as a valuable learning experience. Instead of fearing failure, we can use it as a stepping stone toward improvement and growth. It’s important to be resilient, learn from mistakes, and keep moving forward with a more informed and determined mindset.

In the world of entrepreneurship, it’s often those who are willing to take calculated risks and learn from their failures who ultimately achieve the greatest success.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Having my pieces on being around the country in places like Louisiana, North Carolina and even Montana keeps me going and lets me know that people love and support my brand. I got where I am today, with the love and support of my friends and family. Also, by never giving up and staying in a creative space. Now, its not easy! I have been scammed by manufacturers, lost shipments in the mail, and received discouraging comments from loved ones. But, since I have and believe in my brand, I take the bad with the good. The more research you do as far as scouting bad manufacturers, knowing shipping polices and learning what goes into making garments you will have the tools to be successful. I want the world to know, SneakerHigh is here to stay and watch out for the shoe store coming in 2024!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have been in Houston for three years and I love it. If I had a friend that came to visit me for a week, we would hit all the cool spots. As far as food, I would take them for Cream burger first, who doesn’t love a good hood burger spot! We would also check out, Turkey Leg Hut, Ador, The Address, Lost and Found, The Breakfast Klub, Kamp, and Sekai. Honorable Mention: Chapman and Kirby.

For fun, adventurous stuff, going ATV riding is MUST. Also, visiting the Galleria Mall is a mission in itself. Depending on what friend is visiting, we can go kayaking, walking on the Kemah or Galveston Boardwalk. Chill vibes, going to 610 Bowling, PuttShack or a Karaoke Bar. No what we do my friends will and always have a good time visiting me in Houston.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This clothing brand journey has been hard but my two friends Cherokee and Ryan have been supportive and have listened to all my hardships, success and interesting stories when it comes to building my brand. They have believed in my vision this whole time and encouraged me through me hard times. Thank you guys for being there for me!
