We had the good fortune of connecting with Unofficial V and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Unofficial V, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
My names veronica but my artist name goes by Unofficial V. I was born and raised in the lower rio grand valley in a small town by the name of Harlingen.
Growing up we didn’t always have much and it was always a struggle getting ahead in life for my parents. They always worked really hard to make sure we always had what we needed, but growing up in a less fortunate background always gave me the drive to want more and to do better. The town I live in is very small and everyone always knows everyone’s business so it’s hard to keep things private, not to mention how closed minded people can be. Knowing this and growing up in this everyday, always made me want to branch out and expand not only my mind and beliefs but also what I was doing with myself my life and career path. I knew I wanted more than was this small town could offer, and that’s a big reason I made the move to Austin Texas first. That’s where it all began.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When it comes to my art and music itself I’d have to say, what makes me the most proud is when I’m able to sit down and look back at my work. Seeing the progress from where I started to where I am today and where I am going in the future really excites me. Yes there are days just like any other when you feel discouraged and like you should stop, but that’s the whole reason I started doing this. Always struggling with depression and feeling acceptance from my piers and loved ones always drove me to a form of free expression. Where I could pour my heart out and hope that it resonated and impacted the listener in a way that made sense or just related in some form of way. I wanted to make something that helped other know they weren’t alone in their feelings if they felt the same, or just simply helping others find the words they can’t say themselves. That’s what makes me the most proud is looking back and knowing that I can do that. It’s been a challenge getting to this point and I had to face a lot of struggles, but after leaving the life, job and relationship I had before and making the choice to move to bigger city changed my life for the better. I changed myself and my life completely. It wasn’t easy and there were days I wanted to give up, but I believe I landed right where I needed to be and met the right people when I met them. Because if it wasn’t for the risk I took to want more for myself and my life I wouldn’t be where I am today or where I plan to go on the future. If it’s one thing I’d want the world to know is probably to never stop dreaming and believing, chase your dreams and never let anyone tell you that you can’t achieve something you never know what could happen if you just try, and you’re not alone on this journey we call life, never be afraid to reach out to someone, you never know when it could save a life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
That’s a tough one cause living in Austin there’s so many things to do. But if you’ve never been to the city and you had a week to check it out, definitely take them to all the popular attractions first before we dive more into daily life activities. Definitely start off by going to the capital can’t go wrong there. Walking down south congress is always a must. Thrifting is also huge thing, so many shops not only in the downtown area but scattered though out the Austin area itself. So many cool things to find. Then you dive into the parks of the city and trails because the scenery is amazing. Barton creek, the green belt, are probably one of my favorites. Then you get into the food portion of it all. Shout out pluckers because that’s always a must when you’re in the city, along with so many other amazing places. The hole in the wall restaurants are the greatest there, but I’m not to sure I’m ready to give away those secret hang out spots just yet, but if you know, you know. Night life of course there’s always the famous 6th st. But I’ve grown very fond of night life at the domain so that’s probably where you’ll catch me and all my friends. If not there, then Rainey st. There’s so many things to do in the city to be honest a week wouldn’t even be enough. But if I had to sum it up these are a few of these things you’d find us doing for the week.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The person I owe all my thanks and appreciation too would have to be my good friend and also recording artist xBValentine. She has inspired me in so many ways when it comes to the music industry and not only that but she helped me believe in myself more than I already did. Helped me find the courage to get behind a mic and actually record my music. Growing up I’ve always loved music and everything about it, but I never imagined myself recording and releasing tracks, until the day I met her. She taught me everything I know till this day. So if I owe anyone a huge thank you it’s to her.
