We had the good fortune of connecting with Vera Oyabure and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vera, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
KarisMed is a medical practice that provides a personalized experience by using a functional medicine approach to treat the root cause of diseases and not just hand out pills. We use a membership-based model known as Direct Primary Care (DPC). DPC reduces healthcare costs while providing a more personalized experience which in turn leads to better health outcomes. My business values the relationship with each patient, from adults and their kids to small-business owners and employees. It doesn’t matter if you have health insurance or not, everyone is welcome. KarisMed is helping the community access more affordable quality care by removing the middlemen when it comes to dealing with labs, imaging companies, specialty care, etc., which quadruples the cost of basic medical care. With KarisMed, often we can get up to 90% off on these services, amazing right?!
We want to see you healed completely. We use innovative techniques and lab testing to really get to the bottom of why you’re having symptoms in the first place.
What should our readers know about your business?
KarisMed differs from traditional practices because you are not paying for every service that is rendered, instead, you have unlimited access to different services for a low monthly fee. Unlike traditional practice, there are no co-pays, no surprise medical bills after each visit, and the visits are unlimited and unrushed, which means more quality consultation time!
What I love the most about KarisMed is the relationship I’ve built with each of my patients. I love being able to provide an alternative to the traditional healthcare system. I’m most excited about when my patients come full circle and are truly healed from diseases that they may have been suffering from for years.
I want people to know that there is a better alternative to addressing your healthcare needs that doesn’t involve filling out a bunch of paperwork, sitting in a cold and dreary waiting room for hours just to see a doctor for ten minutes, and get a prescription for medication.
No one moves forward without putting one foot in front of the other, even if it’s a shaky step, you overcome the challenges by taking each step in faith and not fear. I love the movie, Meet The Robinsons, it’s an animated movie that encourages me (and my children) to never give up and to “keep moving forward”.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a foodie, and Houston has so many diverse eateries. You can experience the finest delicacies of the world in one city! So I take every special person in my life to Thai Gourmet on Richmond Ave., or Daddy Duncan a bar-b-que food truck in Katy. I always like to visit Erma Rose’s Winery which is a black/woman/veteran-owned business in Katy, a great place to hang out with the girls or family on the weekend and enjoy live music and socializing outdoors, especially nice setting given the times we are in.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Fulshear Katy Area Chamber of Commerce – local chambers are always looking to support you as a small business owner and I wouldn’t be where I am today without Fulshear Katy Area Chamber of Commerce.
Business Secrets from the Bible – This book has been so impactful to me. Instead of seeing patients as dollar signs (not that I ever would), I see each person’s humanity, I need my patients to thrive so that I thrive. My principle is to love my neighbor as I love myself, to treat others as I myself want to be treated.
