We had the good fortune of connecting with VICTORIA TAYLOR and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi VICTORIA, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am from a small town called hitchcock tx. I was raised by my grandmother who taught me that a strong work ethic and perseverance was the key to success. I would watch her and just be intrigued at how she ran the household. Obviously, we did not have much money but we never knew it. She would tell me “i am raising bosses and ceos”. So my goal was always to be a business owner. Now those are the same values i am teaching my kids.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well, i am a childcare provider. We care for kids ages 6wks to 12yrs old. I have a staff of about 8 ladies. We are all cda certified and they all have a passion for teaching and caring for kids. I feel that what sets me apart from other providers is that i do this for the love of children. Some businesses are started for financial gain. I started my business out of the need of the community. I did not start with much!!! It started out with me babysitting when i was younger. Then i opened up a home center and i had about 10 kids. I then found a building and it took off from there. I have kids now that are the children of ones that i cared for 20/30 yrs ago. It was not easy at all. It took many years to get where we are today. It was a lot of people that helped me with this venture. I owe my family and community for loving me and standing with me all this time. Over the years i have learned that everyone is not for you. The ones you think are gonna hold your hand through it all are the very ones that are not. One thing i want people to know is that if you leave you children here they are gonna get the love of home and the foundation they need to prepare for early childhood.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would first take them to the Houston Museum of African American Culture. It is somewhere i have always wanted to go, so why not go with a bestie. After that we would go to main event because its fun for all ages. Leaving the kids at home is not always cool for me lol. We will go to Eddie v’s and have a nice dinner. I would end the week at Dave and Busters because its all about fun for me.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Along with my grandmother I would like to thank my father for opening up a daycare center in the 80’s that fueled my love for kids. I knew at a young age that taking care of kids was what i wanted to do. I have been doing this for about 30 years. This passion for kids I have runs deep. I could not see myself doing anything different.
