We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Grigassy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I am happier than I have ever been. I am happier for many reasons, but the biggest and most profound difference is that I now get to be 100% authentically myself all the time. You see before starting Imperial Candle Co. I spent most of my professional career as an Executive Assistant, a position that I was required to arrange and meet with executives of companies concerning various and diverse issues. This would require me to not only be well versed in the instant issue but to also have analyzed the personalities of the participants with whom I would be in discussions with. I was successful in my career as an EA, but I always knew something was missing. What that missing piece was is ME. In corporate America typically you need to alter your personality to meet what the role you are in requires. In doing so I never felt fulfilled or happy because I wasn’t allowing my creative energy to work for me which left me feeling like I was always chasing for more. When I rolled out Imperial Candle Co. I instantly felt fulfilled and energized about life again. I no longer must mold myself into what others want or need from me. Instead, I can focus and dedicate my creativity and energy into an endeavor that I thoroughly enjoy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love a good soy candle & I like having them burn all the time in my home. I started making soy candles as a hobby many years ago and slowly over the years friends, family & coworkers began requesting them too. I love the creative energy I get when I make them. Then when the pandemic hit us and the world basically stopped I turned to my candle making even more. I would go into my little room that I had my candle making equipment in and I would let my creative energy start flowing. It brought me calmness while the world was in such chaos. I am feeling like the luckiest girl because I am now living my life for me and doing exactly what I love to do!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my bestie to an Astros or Texans game for sure depending on which sports season it is. We would have to go to Capone’s so she can experience the best jalapeno dip in town. Spend a day downtown bouncing in & out of all shops & restaurants. I love Hermann Park so we would definitely visit that area and the museums.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a huge shoutout to Chip who has always believed in me and continues to encourage me to not give up on my dreams. When I am having a tough day and unsure how I am going to make it all work, Chip lifts me up and reminds me of the successes I have had to help keep me motivated. When I have a win (big or small), Chip is there to celebrate them with me. Thank you for always believing in me.
