Meet Whitney Jackson | Personal Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Whitney, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My personal experience of growing up struggling with my style due to family finances, being bullied, postpartum depression, and eventually learning how to accept and style my body are core memories that shaped me. Having to make do with what I had allowed me to become creative. Also, my family and friends have connected with me for assistance with their style. There are numerous women like me who need help! Since I’ve accomplished many of my own goals related to self-awareness, healing, and growth which affected my style. I desire to help pull other women out of their sunken place. I know the feelings of defeat and victory. It took me a long time to join social media. Once I joined Instagram, I saw people changing their lives along with others. I wanted to make a positive impact with my platform and creativity. I know I’m built for greatness, and that God has a special calling on my life to help others.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
First Class Styles was born from a place of pain that became my passion. Growing up I was the butterball “fat kid” who wore non trendy & hand me down clothes due to financial strains. I was bullied because of my appearance which made me self-conscious, an outsider, and someone that didn’t have much of a voice. However, I was still a sweet-hearted kid who always loved art, music, hair, and creativity. I spent most of my childhood days alone in my room if I wasn’t active with my church youth department or cousins.
Twelve years later a shift happened in my life when I decided to go to therapy. As I healed pieces of myself EVERYTHING began to change including my PERSONAL STYLE! My light started shining brighter, attracting women who were struggling themselves. As I built a presence on Instagram women felt connected to me and trusted me to help them with their style. They bought clothes from me (during our boutique phase), asked me to style them for special events in their lives, and became vulnerable/comfortable to share their personal struggles with me. I’ve always been a giver so to be able to give and help other women with something that came natural to me made me feel empowered, happy, and that I was making a real impact in others’ lives. I know what it’s like to feel invisible, to sit on the sidelines and watch your life pass you by. I know how it feels to desire intimate relationships, promotions, social confidence, and SELF ACCEPTANCE. However, you feel you can’t obtain these desires because you lack confidence, primarily in your appearance. Adding motherhood to the equation is like opening a can of worms. We become lost in the sauce of giving to everyone but ourselves. It’s a new day! We can take the “S” off of our chest, set boundaries (even with our children), and show up for ourselves how we truly desire with style and grace.
We truly desire to help women who connect with our story. Every ‘BODY” Can Have Style. You don’t have to be a certain weight. Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’re not outside every weekend but we do love good food and experiences!
Monday: Mani & Pedi at Secret Escape Nail Lounge. Followed by shopping at Houston Boutiques. A night cap with Stella Rosa Black and good conversation is nonnegotiable.
Tuesday: We’re definitely eating brunch at the Breakfast Klub (it’s a Houston staple!). Then we’re going to the Museum District. We’re both creatives who love and appreciate art.
Wednesday: We’re spending the day at Spa World. Self-care isn’t selfish, okay!
Thursday: It’s crawfish season so visiting Crawfish Cafe is a must. They have the best crawfish I’ve tasted in Houston (so far).
Friday: The Houston Rodeo w/Bun B is a major event! We’re getting cute and going with our boots and hats!
Saturday: We’re headed to the Farmers Market that morning for fresh food. We’ll end the day at The Warwick for fine dining and grown woman vibes. The carrot cake is a must. Get you a slice!
Sunday: We’re headed to Lucille’s for brunch and spending the day chilling in the city. We’ll end our visit with Marble Slab Creamery. Clearly, we’re some foodies…lol.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! I have to start with giving glory to God for brining me this far! He has led me to meet both inspirational and powerful women who have poured into my life. Tiara Abu, Owner of She Can Work has been a gem! She believed in me and poured into me when I was at a low point in my journey of entrepreneurship. From trying to decide whether to throw it all away and settle with becoming a watered-down version of myself or to keep fighting for my dreams. I’m glad I chose the latter. Then there’s Ms. Felichia Jones, Owner of Smart Scholars Academy. She took me under her wings a couple of months before the launch of First Class Styles (as a Personal Stylist Brand). These two ladies helped me tremendously with gaining the knowledge, tools, and resources to grow and take the leap of faith into entrepreneurship. Lastly, my husband Daveyon and best friend Jealena have been instrumental pillars of support along the way.
Thank y’all so much!!!
