We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Whitney, how has your balance changed over time? How do you think about the balance?
Being a wife and homeschool mom (for 5+ years) of 5 kids ages 1, 4, 6, 9, and 10 it’s so important that I plan things out. More importantly, I try to practice rest, self-care, and minimalism as much as possible. I don’t overwork myself or my children. Some days we just relax and restore. Those days give me the strength to work diligently when it’s time. Also, it’s so important to just take time for yourself, especially when you have so many people to care for. You really can’t pour from an empty cup. I’m sure my husband and kids would agree that I’m most pleasant to be around when Mommy gets her me-time. Lol.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
For starters, we are a contemporary flower company, specializing in monthly flower subscriptions. Although, our most popular product right now is our Bloombox. We also maintain fresh flowers on a weekly basis for businesses, such as, Kendra Scott. We launched over 3 years ago when I asked God to give me a fresh, new business idea that I would love. I still remember the day my kids and I were literally running through the house screaming hallelujah when I received the vision for Bloom + Blush. I was over-joyed and just ecstatic. Things have since been challenging to say the least. Life, being suddenly relocated to Houston from Louisiana, miscarrying, a pandemic, and more have all caused many setbacks, but with rest and reliance on God we always manage to recuperate. We are really just learning as we go, and trusting God in the process. We try to incorporate rest and self-care into our brand, along with women appreciation. We are now looking forward to establishing our brand in the Houston area and connecting with our Houston Bloomies! We have so many beautiful things planned and can’t wait to share them with you guys!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ok, so being that I am a Louisiana native, new to the area, I don’t know that I’ll be of much assistance. When family visits we all have one agenda-good eats! I can tell you where I’ve found some good Louisiana inspired foods! Deux What Cha Wanna has awesome poboys! You have to try their “Willie Mae Poboy,” and tell them “Whitney with the 5 kids” sent you! Sauce and Bones (@sauceandbonestx) is another food truck that has amazing BBQ. The owner, Big H, is so down-to-earth and cool. Both of these companies are family businesses with a lot of integrity. They’re just good people, you know? Also, we’ve settled in the Kingwood area and we love it! It’s very family oriented and there are always nice events going on in the Town Center park area. We also love the local farmers’ market that comes every Thursday. Turkey Leg Hut is a must, that goes without explaining! You can literally pick anything from their menu.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Wow, so many people come to mind. First off, my parents. They’ve been running their own successful businesses for years and they have always encouraged me to just go with God and go for it! My father owns a very successful trucking business, Williams Transport. My mother is the owner of Williams Travel. She recently started her own boutique, Dazzle by Dionne. I also want to mention my flower friend, Lashay of Ava Piper & Co. We met a few months ago and she has really been a blessing. My business-minded, close friend, Brittany Francis (@modernboymom) is my go-to for all things business. She helps me with everything! Lastly, my husband, Shawn, who is always my assistant and of course he sponsors all my financial needs, Lol. Oh, and I can’t forget my little babies, the King Kids. I should really add them to my payroll.
