We had the good fortune of connecting with Wyntress X’ion and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wyntress, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Most people think that artists “paint all day” as a job but there are so many moving parts that are involved when you choose to be a professional artist. Initially, like most would think I too, thought as a visual artist I would spend most of my days with a pencil or paintbrush in hand , but as I grow in business I am learning that is not the case. There’s a lot of research , brainstorming , writing , math, and science that are sometimes apart of the process before the viewer sees the masterpiece.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work is a combination of texture , vibrant colors , hidden messages and affirmations. I want the viewer feel empowered and worthy. I also want to provide a history lesson or at least leave a provoking thought. I used different mediums to help me convey different messages and tell unique stories. Throughout the exploration of expressing my creativity I pay tribute to those who have influenced culture by sometimes incorporating recycled goods and vintage framing. I am really proud of how much I grown in my craft and I am excited about what’s in the future. I learned a lot of valuable lessons within this last year not only in business but as a person and I’ll share a couple with you. First, learn the business side of the industry you choose its a game changer you’ll be able to pivot and make strategic moves earlier in your career. Secondly , consistency is a basic form of love ,anything or anyone you love you show up for everyday better than the day before. I hope that when people see some of work that somewhere in there they feel me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Sam ( my bestfriend) and I would start with Breakfast Klub . Then scourer the city for art looking for anything from fine art to graffiti exhibitions ,we’d look for interactive events like Art + Beats & Brews , and stop by the graffiti park. We’d probably visit Axel Rad hang in hammocks and listen to live music. Depending if we were out late enough we would definitely have to stop in third ward at some point for Hungry Heroes because it’s just routine.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow, this is a great question there are so many people. To start it would the very first I’ve ever known , my mother who is not only an inspiration but my biggest supporter. I’d would also want shoutout to my friends who I am truly grateful for such a strong circle of support and love. I am influenced by the growth and dedication to their personal goals and professional development. Lastly, I would include my mentor who has been a guiding light in the art realm by being able to provide 30years of wisdom and insight.
