We had the good fortune of connecting with Shuntonese Richardson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shuntonese, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Habits like being disciplined and goal oriented helped me succeed as an entrepreneur. Being able to say No to everything that doesn’t align with where I want to be is hard but a major key. Knowing when and how to have tunnel vision helped me continue to grow and excel over the years.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets me apart from others is my ability to run multiple successful businesses and not quit. From running a beauty bar & boutique store front to publishing books to running a non profit bookclub, many would have gotten discouraged but I continue to prevail. It wasn’t easy getting this far, but with God.. all things are possible.
I’ve gotten this far with prayer and a plan. I utilize planner and notebooks heavily! I can’t function if things aren’t written down in front of me. Including a vision board! I believe that when you see your goals: daily, weekly, yearly.. it makes them easier to achieve!
Along the way I learned that challenges will come, but as long as you have breathe still in your body.. YOU CAN COME BACO FROM ANYTHING…. See it through!
I built all of my brands off LOVE and when the world looks at either of my three… I want them to know that if I can do it, they can do it too. NO EXCUSES!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the city I would take them to all the black owned places for food. Chicago has the best food, hands down! I’d take them to all my favorite happy hour spots during the day, like Cajun Boil and Bar Louie. Id take them to Soul Full, the best black owned book store in the city and finish the night downtown Chicago so they can see and experience the lights and lit night life.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
God! I am nothing without God! Also, my Bookclub- @bookdthebookclubnfp I wouldn’t be half as good as I am without them carrying and supporting me all these years.
Another person is my mentor @Bishop. Thank you for all the ideas and crucial criticism that got me this far!
Thank you to everyone who supported me over the years!
