We had the good fortune of connecting with Bianca Joseph, LMSW and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bianca, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success has been support from others. Throughout all my endeavors, I have had my family’s relentless support and support from the community. In any project, I’ve attracted knowledgeable and resourceful mentors to offer insight, guidance, and inspiration, The support I received from the loved individuals along the way has amplified my own intrinsic motivation for success and propelled me faster and closer to my goals. As a result, I offer the same mentorship and guidance to those who come to me, both professionally as a school social worker and personally as a nonprofit organizer and consultant.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a licensed master social worker and currently work at a middle school. I provide mental and behavioral health counseling via individual and group psychotherapy. I specialize in trauma, but I’m noticing that, given the limitations of working in a school setting, that I am most effective with mood and anxiety disorders. I am most proud of my ability to connect with kids of different racial, sexual, gender, and religious backgrounds. What sets me apart is that my background and upbringing are culturally diverse. This personal diversity allows me to empathize with varying types of people, problems, and situations since I grew up reconciling differences between my mother’s Haitian culture and my American neighborhood and community, as well as the economic disparities so obvious in South Florida.
I am where I am today because of all the guidance and support I received along the way. On this journey, I’ve learned to be patient. I am very goal-oriented and become laser-focused in achieving my goals, so much so that I overlook the other amazing things on the path. I want the world to know that seeking help is not a sign of weakness, but rather an indication of high self-awareness. I had to realize that I didn’t know something before seeking the answer; once I received the answer, I gained more information and moved one step closer to my goals.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of the best places I’ve visited in the city are the following: Cidercade, Painting with a Twist, Fat Crab, KISS Lounge, Bar 2200, The Breakfast Klub, Color Factory, and Seaside Lounge.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As cliché as it is, I have to shoutout my mom! She loves and supports me unconditionally. Even while I was in school in New York City and Philadelphia, and now while I reside in Houston, she has been and continues to be very engaged in my activities and pursuits–all the way from West Palm Beach, FL.
