In our experience, most folks, including ourselves don’t have enough of an understanding of risk and the role it plays in our lives and careers and so we have made a concerted effort as a team to have conversations about risk with our interviewees. We’ve shared some highlights below.

When I started my photography career over 30 years ago, everyone said I would not make money as a photographer. It would be a dead end career. I still pursued my passion of art and photography and still pushed on. I did try working in corporate America first. After my wife and I returned from our honeymoon, the company I was working for closed it’s doors. I starting my new life as a married man, with a wife, and needed to formulate a career change so this would never happen again. After months of soul searching, I told my wife I wanted to pursue photography full time and open a studio. I took a risk with $5,000 to purchase my first pro camera: Hasselblad 501CM. There is definitely a lot of risk when it comes to owning your own business. Especially all the losses financially in the beginning stages of marketing. I have worked harder at my other job in order to keep up with a entrepreneurial dream I really see a future with! I would say each event involves a risk – building your demographic of people who come, selling enough tickets to even out the hefty bill and spending money as a female host on looking my best.
