Artists and creatives face innumerable challenges given that their career path often doesn’t come with a playbook, a steady paycheck or any form of safety net. It’s definitely not easy and so we asked a few of the artists and creatives we admire to talk to us about why they chose to pursue an artistic or creative career.

Dan Williams | Creative Director & Fashion Archivist

I feel like this has somewhat always been in the cards for me. I’ve been around business and fashion for my entire life. From my mothers extensive vintage Gucci collection to my brothers collecting Bape, Supreme, and Ed Hardy as a child, this is something I have always wanted to pursue. I want to be able to open the doors for diversity in the fashion industry and open the doors for there to be more creative directors of color to be in the luxury fashion space. Neel Wani | Performing and Recording Artist/Producer

I decided to pursue an artistic career because that’s where I belong. As a person of Indian heritage, most people take the educational route and pursue high paying, highly skilled jobs. I never found comfort in school, and always found myself struggling to focus and master the content. Along with school, I began my musical career playing the drums, which I used as an escape from reality. Through childhood, we have many challenges, and one of my biggest ones was the divorce my parents. I didn’t really know how to process things emotionally, so I took out my frustrations on the drum set. I found solace in beating along to all types of music from Hip Hop to Punk rock, and found myself playing along to bands on my headphones for hours upon hours.
