We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Aldaco and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It’s sort of hard to answer this question as there was really no thought back when I started. I just knew that the moment I made my first balloon decor in 2018, I couldn’t stop. I then taught myself how to do other structures balloon related. Now looking back, I realized that I really just jumped into it knowing absolutely nothing about the business side of things and was so focused on the creative side. I never started with a concrete business plan and slowly learned the importance of it as time went on that made me re think my business priorities and act on it as I do now.

What should our readers know about your business?
I offer Organic balloon arrangements and set ups. I also teach balloon building classes and so far, I have done several one-on-one private trainings and also do virtual. I am a self taught balloon stylist and my passion for creativity with balloons and my experience through this journey is what Discover Balloons is all about. It started when I saw a picture on Pinterest of a beautifully arranged balloon decor and it really caught my attention. I then took the opportunity to do one for my son’s first birthday party and I couldn’t stop myself since. My first year of offering it as a business was really hard. The hardest part was trying to put what I’m capable of out there. I would get bookings once or two times a month and that really taught me to get my technique better on the next one. My experiences from the moment of starting is what makes me the way I am now when it comes to delivering my services. I wrote down so many goals but I concentrated on creating balloon arrangements and made sure I got better than my previous ones. To this day, my main goal is to do bigger and better designs. Even though marketing is also a very important aspect in running a business, I admit that I focused most of my energy in improving my skills and finding my own style. It’s hard to say my technique is one of a kind but each artist have their own unique flair and I guess whatever my style is, is what sets me apart from others and  that’s what draws my audience in and potentially turning those audiences into clients.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would love to start slow in Kemah. There are So many places to dine in and see there. I would stay there on a slow Monday until Tuesday and just hang out, get on a boat, get a tattoo perhaps and just dine from Bubba Gump to the Flying Dutchman and get some late night coffee. Mid week I would then wanna take them to the Aquarium downtown Houston for lunch and hangout all afternoon. Most of my friends have little kids like myself so there’s no better places other than the ones I’ve mentioned. Then we’ll dine at the Taste or Texas for dinner. I know they’ll love the Tomahawk like I do. Approaching the weekend, I would take them to the Galleria for an early brunch and walk around before heading back to my side of town (Katy) check out old katy and dine at the new Cheesecake factory that just opened on Katy Mills. I would then take them to watch a movie and what better place to do so other than Cut on Cypress. I would then finish the night at the one and only Buc-ee’s! I gotta take them to see the famous Beaver and check out the longest carwash in Texas. On the weekend we would then head to Galveston and visit their downtown after walking by the beach. I love the vibe in Old downtown Galveston and just spend the night at one of the hotels there and head back Sunday.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to share the spotlight with my family. They now live in a house that gets filled up with balloons every weekend. I am a full time stay at home mom who now has to juggle life at home with an endeavor from home. Combining the lifestyle we enjoy and  running a small  business at the same time  is something we had to get used to but this business has turned our lives around and I am just thankful that I started when I did and grabbed my window to experience this opportunity at this point of my life.
