We had the good fortune of connecting with Sherah Juarez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sherah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I knew I had an unusual artistic talent, and felt called to share it with the world. However, I was not a business major, so starting my own company was definitely intimidating and yet exciting all in one. If I was going to be able to help others, I knew I had to take a leap of faith. I’m so thankful that I did. I thought I was starting a business to help change the lives of cancer patients, burn patients and anyone that needed medical tattooing… only to find, that they were the ones changing my life just as much if not more ,than I had changed.theirs.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art does not use the traditional pencil or a paint brush, I use a tattoo machine and pigments. I create realism tattoos for breast cancer patients that have lost their breasts to cancer. I use optical illusion to give the appearance that the pt really does have a protruding nipple along with numerous other realistic characteristics. I also use fleshtone colors to disguise scars or burns. Helping a pt to look in the mirror and feel better about themselves, helping them to be able to forget some of the physical and emotional trauma. I can’t even begin to tell you how blessed I feel to get to be a part of these peoples journeys.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I absolutely love Houston, but you can’t come here and not attend the Rodeo! I would definitely take my best friend to see some mutten busting, and a George straight concert to follow. We have soooo many great restaurants, but my personal favorite is Mexican food! Love me some “Lupe Tortilla “. Now that I’m thinking about it, this was actually the very first restaurant I had eaten at when I moved here 18 years ago.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely owe a huge thank you to all 28 of the Drs I work for. They have each one, entrusted me with their patients. Experience! They gave me the gift of experience. Whiteout this, my art would not been able to advance and evolve. So yes, I am so thankful that they allowed me to work with their patients whom often times become like family to them., and now me.
