Meet Carla Calderas | Healing Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carla Calderas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carla, every day, we know how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Healing wasn’t originally a business idea. It started as something I was searching for myself.
As a teenager, I experienced pain, trauma, loneliness, and periods where I felt lost. There were times when I felt like I was drowning under the weight of it all. I knew I didn’t want to stay there, so I started looking for answers. I read books, explored meditation, learned from different teachers, and became curious about what helps people heal.
That search eventually led me to study psychology and counseling and become a licensed psychotherapist. Through my own healing journey and through working with clients, I began to see that while every person’s story is unique, many of us are carrying similar wounds and asking similar questions. We want peace. We want connection. We want to feel like ourselves again.
That realization led me to create Calderas Counseling, where I could help people through therapy. Over time, I also recognized that healing can happen in many ways. Sometimes it happens in a counseling office, sometimes through a book, sometimes through a conversation, and sometimes through a message that helps someone feel seen and understood.
Today, my work has expanded beyond therapy into speaking, writing, and coaching, but the mission remains the same: I am committed to my own healing while helping others remember who they were before the pain. Everything I create, whether it’s counseling, a keynote, or my book Healing Is Within You, is rooted in that purpose.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My background is in education and psychotherapy, and today I help people reconnect with themselves through speaking, therapy, and my book, *Healing Is Within You*. No matter the setting, my work is rooted in the same belief: healing is not about reinventing yourself, it is about coming back to yourself.
Getting here hasn’t always been easy. Like many people, I have experienced pain, trauma, self-doubt, and seasons where I felt disconnected from myself. I have spent years doing my own healing work, and one of the greatest lessons I have learned is that healing is not a destination. As we heal one part of ourselves, we often discover another part that is ready for our attention and care. What I am most proud of is that I did not lose myself along the way. I continued to ask for help, learn from others, stay curious, and remain open to books, mentors, conferences, and experiences that helped me better understand myself.
What sets me apart is that I bring both personal and professional experience to this work. I blend psychology with inner wisdom, intuition, and practical tools to help people reconnect with the version of themselves that may have been lost beneath life’s experiences. Whether I am speaking to an audience, sitting with a client, or writing, I want people to know that I am not speaking from a place of having it all figured out. I am walking the path alongside them, and it is an honor to help others find their way back to themselves.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would want them to experience the places that feel most like home to me.
One of our first stops would be Calderas Counseling. It may sound unusual, but I have put so much thought and care into creating a space that feels grounded, cozy, elegant, and welcoming. I would love for them to see the environment where I spend so much of my time supporting others and doing work that is meaningful to me.
We would also spend plenty of time outdoors. One of my favorite places is Burroughs Park in Tomball. Every time I visit, I feel like I have stepped out of the city and into Colorado or the Pacific Northwest. We would take long walks, enjoy nature, and slow down enough to have the kinds of conversations that are easy to miss in everyday life.
For food and local experiences, I would take them to Old Town Spring for shopping, exploring, and a relaxed afternoon. We would definitely make time for Texas barbecue, including Bexar Barbecue in Tomball and The Pit Room in Houston. I would also take them to Kemah to walk along the waterfront, enjoy the breeze, and watch the sunset.
Most importantly, I would not fill every minute of the trip. I would leave space for connection. We would spend time at home talking about life, our hopes and dreams, and the projects we are excited about. I would probably pull out my oracle cards, and we would celebrate how far we have come while dreaming about what is next. To me, the best trips are not about doing more—they are about creating memories with the people you care about.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Women: the women who came before me, the women beside me, and the women who will come after me.
As women, we carry stories that are deeply personal, yet often surprisingly similar. We know what it feels like to carry pain, to question ourselves, to lose parts of who we are, and to search for our way back. When I sit with women in my office, speak to an audience, or connect with readers, I am constantly reminded that beneath our different experiences is a shared humanity. We recognize something in each other. We see each other’s struggles, strength, wisdom, and hope.
I am grateful for the women who have trusted me with their stories and for the women who have shared their wisdom with me. I think about the generations of women who came before us, who carried burdens we may never fully understand and whose courage helped create opportunities we now have. I think about the women who are healing today and the women who will benefit from that healing tomorrow.
To me, healing is bigger than any one person. Every time a woman chooses to heal, speak her truth, set a boundary, or come back to herself, it creates a ripple that extends far beyond her. I feel honored to be part of that ripple and to walk alongside so many remarkable women on the journey.
