We had the good fortune of connecting with Jullissa Hinds and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jullissa, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Honestly, I am not big on risk taking. It scares me. I think of myself as a calculated person that puts logic over everything. I weigh pros and cons typically in every situation from career to personal. However, there are times where I jumped without overthinking and took risks. Specifically, spending a semester away for college in a new town. It brought me out of my usual comfort zone and ended up being a great networking opportunity. The experience helped me maturity wise and with having more “street-smarts”. Taking risks can be scary, but staying stagnant in your comfort zone and not experiencing life is an even scarier thought.

I have worked in various marketing roles over the years as my profession and about 2 years ago decided to pursue a long time dream of selling real estate. I am currently licensed to sell real estate in North New Jersey. I was very successful in my first year – closing 9 deals within my first 11 months. It was a grind! Literally, working around the clock and using negotiation skills and networking to get things done. I plan on continuing working in real estate but would like to pursue other areas other than sales. I’ve learned what areas of real estate I have strengths in and what areas I’d like to stay away from. Balancing mental health and personal life is very difficult when in real estate but always making time for myself was important to me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In Houston my favorite spot was absolutely the Four Seasons bar. There is a restaurant in there called Toro Toro. It would be my go to if I wanted to impress a friend. I am really drawn to classy establishments. Downtown Houston has my heart. The big city feel is my vibe. I’ll also be checking out Victory soon. If you are someone who likes a chill, aesthetic vibe, downtown’s hotels all have bars and lounges that are worth checking out. If you are like me and like chance meetings – I’ll say this – you never know who you will run into. Thirteen by James Harden is also my other go-to. It gives black excellence and has an amazing ambience. The drinks are on point!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow – there are so many people who had a hand in propelling me forward at so many different stages of my life. Overall, I’d say my family and friends in general have always supported me in all my ever-changing ambitions and that true love and support is what gave me confidence to do anything I needed to do. Many of my significant others along the way have also financially backed me and I am forever grateful for that even though some of those relationships didn’t work out for the long run.
