Meet Paige Denny | Doctor of Physical Therapy, CGCP, CAPS, Stay At Home Texas

We had the good fortune of connecting with Paige Denny and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paige, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I have been in the home health field for over 15 years, so I have seen firsthand how people are dealing with problem all across Houston. I ran across this aging in place certification, and I thought it was another way to help people. That was it. It was really just an idea about wanting to do more to serve and help others.
There are people in our community who are struggling with mobility, accessibility, and independence, and they just deal with it. We thought starting Stay At Home Texas was a great idea because, in a sense, we are creating a whole new industry geared around giving people answers. When we come into the home, there is almost a sense of relief for people. They get to understand their next steps, their options, and they get a clear plan to move forward.
It feels really good to be that for someone. We get to be a wealth of home health knowledge. But in the medical world, everyone seems to operate in their own lane. So when we started doing this full time, we really started to see the value in pulling all of these worlds into “aging in place.” That is the buzz term.
We do Home Mobility Planning™ because our goal is to help someone understand how to age in place safely and realistically. But aging in place takes more than one person or one company. It takes an entire industry working together. That is why we coined the term, and that is why we are sharing our educational materials with others, to help people understand that there is help when it comes to figuring out their situation at home.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets us apart from others is my credentials and knowledge of being in homes throughout the city. I have spent the past 15 years in and out of homes, so I have been building this knowledge about how people interact with their environments, how they struggle, and what we are facing financially. Grinding on that, day after day, has helped me get to where I am.
I don’t want to say it was easy or hard, it was just sort of what I wanted to do. I knew that I wanted to make connections with my patients, and I knew that I wanted to be able to treat them in a manner that went beyond just a turn and burn clinical setting.
So, I had to overcome not knowing anything about being a home health PT, and I had to build everything I have as a professional. That took time, repetition, hard lessons, and working with awesome people around me.
I’ve learned along the way that people need help. Our older generation is special, and it takes a lot to help them be comfortable and they deserve it. They deserve our time, our love, and our care. That’s sort of why we started Stay At Home Texas because it allowed us to add another layer to helping others.
That’s what makes our business special. We don’t sell equipment. We don’t knock down walls. We come in and help you understand what you need so you can make an informed decision, and we do it with the knowledge of 15 years in home health. It’s really a special thing.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
You got to go downtown and have some dinner. Houston is one of the premier spots in the world for eating and having an awesome evening. You have to hit up Pappas Steakhouse on McKinney and have dinner.
You need to go to an Astros game. There is nothing better than an evening in Daikin Park.
Then, you need to go to Galveston. Whether that is a beach house or just parking on the beach, you have to take in the scenery down there. It’s like Houston has the best of everything.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I first started, I was lucky enough to have a wonderful boss who took me in as a new graduate who knew nothing about the home health world. She just saw something in me. At the time, 15 years ago, no one in that world got hired without experience, but she took this risk on me.
From there, she gave me the foundation for everything in the home health setting, the right way, the first time. Because she helped me so much, I never had to break many bad habits. I was able to take what she taught me and apply it to helping others.
She truly set me down this path.
