We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Christopher Chance and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Christopher, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
My father once told me “boy, your last name is Chance. Taking risks is what we do. Just make sure they’re calculated.” My childhood forced me to be comfortable with being uncomfortable, and because of that it fueled me to never be complacent. It also forged within me the values of patience, hard work, and a strong relationship with God. For me, taking risks starts with work ethic and consistency. I’m of the belief that if you stay ready you don’t have to get ready. Every associate dentist job I had before opening my office I utilized for my end goal. I treated the patients and staff like they were mine. I worked hard like the practice was mine. I learned the business side of the office even though it’s not my business. I did not leave my job to open Oaks Point Pediatric Dentistry because I was tired of working for someone else, and making someone else money. I did it because I was finally ready to work for me. I leveraged someone else’s risk to reduce my own. Even with all of that, I have learned that God has more me than I can calculate, and THIS is the most important reason I take risks.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We provide exceptional dental care for children from infancy to adulthood in a fun and modern environment. We use evidence-based practices and state of the art materials to provide long-lasting solutions. Our desire is for every family to have a next level experience during their children’s appointments. By doing so, establishing a positive association with going to the dentist. Furthermore, I use dentistry as a vehicle to help teach young people about responsibility, perseverance, courage, consistency, empathy, and patience. We are located in the Garden Oaks/Oak Forest neighborhood of Houston, TX and one of our main initiatives is supporting the education of our young ones. We currently donate over $10,000 per year in sponsorships to local schools and teams in our area.
Oaks Point Pediatric Dentistry opened its doors in September 2020. Right in the heart of the COVID-19 Pandemic. As you could imagine, it was very stressful in the early days of the practice. However, I always believed that if we treat people with the utmost respect and care and stay true to our values as providers, everything would work out. Thankfully, our incredible neighborhood has welcome us with open arms.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There’s so much to do in Houston. I love to eat so I have to take them to places like Mo’ Better Brews, Houston Sauce Co., Lucille’s, Grace’s, Gatlin’s BBQ, Uchi, Doris Metropolitan, Steak 48, Wooster’s Garden. We have to play a few rounds of golf at any of the great courses in Houston, and take in a sporting event or concert.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
