We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Sanchez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I left my career as a store manager for a major craft store to be a stay at home mom when I had my oldest son. By the time his first birthday was nearing, I desperately felt the need to be creative again, and to have a a focus outside of being a mom. My new circle of friends and acquaintances were mostly parents of young kids, so what better treat is there to offer than custom cookies!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have an extensive creative background as well as a career history in management and customer service. That being said, I’m able to create absolute custom edible art for customers in a professional manner. I specialize in hand painted cookies, and offer complete cake and treat tables for weddings and events. I’m so excited to be announcing an addition to our offerings this year: a STUNNING treat cart that is unlike anything you’ve seen in the area. It can be rented out with our treat table packages or on its own.
I’m a one woman show, and take on one wedding at a time so your event pieces are truly brought to life with no middle person.
You won’t find a baker more motivated than me. I’m a mom, and my work provides for my boys and allows me to work from home. It allows me to homeschool them, be flexible with play dates and ensure they have everything they need. I’ve truly never loved a job more than this one, and I can’t wait to see where this year takes me.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh wow, that’s a tough one. I hope my friend likes to be in the car as much as we do! We’d definitely have to spend a day snagging some of my favorite treats. Coffee from Blue Willow in Willis is a MUST and you have to grab something from their Scratch by Sarah fridge. Everything is to die for!
We’re big fans of grabbing lunch to go and hanging out at trails and parks because my two toddlers have energy for days. One of our favorite outings consists of a sandwich from Tony’s Italian Delicatessen in Tomball and then a trip to Burroughs Park.
If my bff is ready for some true outdoors fun, we’re definitely heading to Pundt Park and hiking down to Spring Creek for the afternoon.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As with so many small businesses, I just wouldn’t have been successful at all without the support of my husband and parents. They encouraged me, listened to hours and hours of my ramblings every time I learned a new technique, or stressed about an order. To this day, Nana still comes to the rescue to watch my boys when I have a wedding to work.
Outside of my family, I lean heavily on my network of baking friends! There’s a select few that I message back and forth with in the middle of the night when I’m working late, some that I share bulk supply orders with or bounce ideas off of, and some that I share encouraging words with now and again. They’re all so important to my success.
