We had the good fortune of connecting with Annkwinnette Sangail and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Annkwinnette, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursue music and nails because it has allowed me to really be true to myself and I simply just love creating things and sitting back and looking like wow God you are awesome, and the reason why I bring God into it is because I am nothing without him and anything I do is to glorify him whether I’m talking about him in my music or im doing a set a nails for someone and I’m able to share about who he is and how great he is.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I truly believe what sets me apart from others is my drive that I have for what I do whether it’s writing my own music or doing nails. I’m most proud of the fact that even though there were times where it seemed as though I had given up God didn’t give up on me and sent people my way to push me to pick back up every talent and gift and utilize it. I am where I’m at today because I’ve stayed up and had sleepless nights learning music and going over scripts for musical auditions. I would be up for hours and hours working hard at something that I either couldn’t get right or wanted it to be done in excellence. Even with me doing nails I would stay up to 3 or 4 o’clock in the morning teaching myself how to do different things to satisfy customers. While although it wasn’t easy, I had a drive that wouldn’t allow me to accept anything mediocre. There was even a time where I just wanted to give up and say forget it, as I did for a second due to the fact that I was really discouraged. It wasn’t even that I wasn’t getting clientele, it wasn’t that I wasn’t being offered to come audition for this and that. I just got in the way of my own self and am now at a place where I’m knowing and learning who I am with the help of Christ. I overcame those obstacles by adhering to the encouragement that people gave me along the way to never stop doing what I do, because no matter what God has a purpose and plan for me. If I had to say one lesson I’ve learned is to never doubt yourself it doesn’t matter what it looks like or how it feels. If God says it’s for you then it’s for you. If I had to choose one thing I want the world to know about me concerning my music and nails. It would be to tell you to place Jeremiah 29:11 in your heart that says “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend come in town, my favorite spots in the city to eat at least would be The Grand Lux, The Cheesecake Factory, KISS Houston or Timmy chans lol we either gonna eat some good fancy food or we’re gonna eat some good chicken in the hood. I think the best things to do is to either go to a comedy show or to see what events are going on during that time of the year.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this shoutout to my Mother (Brenda Bob) because she has never stopped pushing me from day one whether it’s my music and writing my songs, performing on stage in musicals, singing in jazz concerts, dancing in glee shows at school. She has always been my number one supporter from the beginning and stays encouraging me to never stop doing what I’ve been called to do.

I also wanna give a shout-out to my Mentor (Prophetess Myrlande Vincent) and if I can just be real about it she’s the reason I even picked music and nails back up again. Her push launched me out into doing the things that I once loved to do before, but also to never throw in the towel again, and for that I’m extremely grateful.
