We had the good fortune of connecting with LaMarcus and LaWanda Harrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaMarcus and LaWanda, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My desire for starting my own business originated during one of the lowest times of my life. I was a newly divorced mother of four and money was scarce. I would cringe when birthdays, holidays, and special occasions came around. I had the heart to give my kids the world, but my finances told another story. I was unable to give them the lavish birthday and graduation parties other parents had for their kids and it hurt me to the core. I decided then that one day I would create a company that would provide kids with memorable party events and it would come without the huge price tag. I am thankful to God that today I am in that position. I have held many parties and witnessed the smiles of parents and children and that makes it all worthwhile.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business is a one-stop shop for your ultimate kids’ party experience. We have everything from a 360 photo booth, bounce houses, snow cones, popcorn machines, and more! Most importantly we bring our great attitudes and smiling faces. We have a professional team that goes above and beyond to make your party experience a memorable one. We are happiest when we see the excitement on the faces of our parents and kids. Our business was not built overnight. We are proud of the growth of our business. We started with a mere two chairs and a bounce house, but have grown to something spectacular. Being a business owner is not an easy task, but hugs from the kids and thank you from the parents are amazing rewards.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a huge fan of Houston, Texas and I wouldn’t trade my city for anything in this world. If a friend were visiting from out of town for the weekend I would take them to all of my favorite go-to spots. I would suggest that they get hotel reservations at the Marriott Marquis as they have the Big Texas Pool for their guest and their Margaritas are to die for. I would make sure that they visit Frozen Paradise (in Third Ward) for dinner as they have the best chicken wings on earth. Afterward, we would visit 5015 for more drinks before we close our evening out. I am a huge fan of their amazing Lemon Drops. I would suggest that check out our amazing museum district and please don’t leave town without hitting up the Breakfast Klub.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout my husband LaMarcus Harrison. When I first told him that I would like to start this business, he was like lets rock and roll, The support that he has shown me was nothing but amazing. He pushes me to be great. he’s always a breath of fresh air on party days. My kids are a huge help and inspiration in my business and I thank God for them. Also, would like to send a shout to Dyani Brinkley for the days I need extra hands she’s always willing to step in and help. I really have a great team that I’m so grateful for. Shout out to my best friend Dornice Smith that has always been so supportive from day one, I appreciate you. To my sister Daunay Willis the CEO of Terra Belle Studio who stepped out on faith this year and opened her own venue. She’s always making sure that I’m giving 150% to all that I do. So far this year she has encouraged me to really step out on faith on some stuff that I have been holding back on. It’s so many people to shout out too many to name but, know I really appreciate you all.
