Meet Vanessa Esiere | Biomedical Engineer & Lash Technician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Esiere and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vanessa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my first business when I was 20 years old. Everyone, including myself, was in the middle of an epidemic and companies were dropping their employees like flies. Then something came to me, how can I live in a world where my primary income depends on another person’s wealth. Knowing that I am fully capable just as much as the person signing my check. Then it clicked! I need to get my own revenue, my own generational wealth, and my own business! This is where everything started, from a simple thought that turned into a brilliant idea.

I always knew I wanted to be in the beauty/cosmetic industry. So I started to look into the services I received and at the time, I was getting my lashes done every 2 weeks. Then I thought to myself, why can’t I learn to do my own lashes and save my coins! From there, I started looking into taking a course to be a certified lash technician. After searching for days, I finally found the perfect person that I would love to learn from!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Eyeminkz Company is a luxury lash company that provides services and products for eyelash extensions in San Antonio and Houston, Texas. The company is owned and operated by Vanessa Esiere and was founded in 2020. Eyeminkz aims to grow different skills in the beauty industry, such as brow lamination, hydro lips fillers, and teeth whitening. The company also intends to expand its knowledge to others through group and 1-on-1 classes.

The lash industry is a very competitive business so quality work and good customer service are a must! Eyeminkz’s target is to make their clients feel their best. We are the finest at connecting with our clients and making them feel at home. We take delight in our client’s safety, comfort, and trust in us and that is most important in an industry like this. Along with Eyeminkz’s work quality, we have one of the greatest lash extension retentions in San Antonio. We make sure that each appointment is accounted for and not rushed. We take our time with each client and do our best at achieving the look they ask for.

I am most proud of how far I have come! I came from working at fast food restaurants, call centers and never felt satisfied working at these companies. Until one day it came to me that I needed my own company. Having a business taught me so much value; I am here writing my own future and changing the world while doing it. I am extremely excited to start learning more about the beauty industry and possibly passing on that knowledge to people that willing to learn from me.

Everything we see and experience around us was created and invented by someone: the laws we follow, the TV shows we watch, and even the apps we are constantly on. So with that, I too can create and invent something with value and influence & inspire the world with change. Of course, it is easier said than done but all in all, mistakes and failures are a part of success. There are several events in my life as a businesswoman in that I felt rejected, failed, and disappointed. The things that didn’t work out, the hardships I had along the way – in hindsight, those things happened to teach me something and put me in the right direction. I learned a great deal from all those situations and the lessons I learned continue to guide me into a brighter future and path. “For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises again” – Proverbs 24:16

At a point and time in my life, I got confused about the path I was supposed to be taking. Am I doing the thing God destined me to do? Should I be taking risks that will advance my business? Like what am I supposed to do? Then it came to me, what do I benefit or gain from doing something that I don’t love or aligns with my goals: opportunity cost. Right there, I was reassured, when I calculated the opportunity cost of not doing things I truly wanted to do (build my brand), I quickly realized that I can’t afford to waste any more time putting off pursuing my dreams. Time is the only thing we have that can not turn back or retrieve and I had planned to utilize all my time with my business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Come along bestie, we are having the greatest 2 day weekend in Houston! On the first day (Saturday) we will wake up early and start getting ready for the day. We will first go to brunch (1 pm/2 pm) at thirteen. Finish brunch around 4/5 pm then head to Hermann park for a paddle boat ride. that will end around 7/8 pm then go back to the Airbnb and change outfits for dinner. We will then go to dinner (9 pm) at Bungalow. finish dinner at 11/12 pm then end the night at Paradise Palace. The second day has arrived, here we come! We are going straight into the activities of ATV riding (12pm). We will leave there and head back to the Airbnb and officially get ready for the rest of the day. Once done getting ready we will go get something to eat at Lost & Found (3/4 pm). Lucky for us, we are on a strip of different bars and lounges, so we will walk the strip and have a blast.

I would love to give a big shoutout to my family and friends and most importantly, my creator, The Most High God Himself!

I thank God mostly because without Him, my business and I are nothing. I built my business on His foundation, His guidance, and His love. At times when things weren’t working out the way I thought, He always showed up and showed me something better than what I imagined! This Godly foundation that I built my business on, is a foundation that even when everything around it, is chaotic my business remains calm and successful. No human can guarantee that type of peace, only God Himself can.

I also want to give a huge thank you to my friends and family! They were all the support a person can ask for! throughout my journey of starting my business, they were always front row and center. They were even the very first clients I had when I officially started my business. I couldn’t thank them more for all the love and encouragement they gave me!
