We had the good fortune of connecting with Tischa van de Reep and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tischa, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Prayer has been my first step in everything. Before I make a decision or a move, I pray about it. And when I don’t see clear signs of progress, I know that I’m at a crossroads. I can trust that my efforts will bear fruit, or I can recognize that it would be wiser to change course. Again, I pray, and then I count the cost. What does it cost me to keep going? Not just the financial costs, but also time, energy, relationships, and mental and spiritual well-being. What does it cost me to give up? Will I have regrets that I did? If one person is counting on me to deliver, I will keep going for the one. If, upon self-reflection and prayer, I realize that I’m continuing out of stubbornness and pride, then I’m more likely to step back. But because I start everything I venture into prayerfully, I can’t recall a time I’ve had to give up.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a writer who takes insight from Scripture and weaves it into the everyday lives of women to bring fresh perspective to how we cope with trials as well as relevance to the Bible. I always loved writing, but I tended to struggle with getting projects done. It wasn’t until that I started writing about God’s Word, that I found myself finishing what I started. I was a wild child who wouldn’t step foot in a church. But when I fell to my knees and started reading the Bible, I picked up a pen and never looked back. My work connects women to God in vulnerable and authentic ways because that’s the nature of my relationship with Jesus – real and vulnerable. This isn’t an easy calling, but following God’s lead is so much more rewarding than living on my own terms. The main thing that I want the world to know about me and my work is that I had no value to myself, I was self-destructive and unfulfilled. But God chose me to be His, and He poured His Word and worth into me so that I could pour out onto others. And if He can do it for me, He can do it for you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a Woodlands Girl so hanging out in The Woodlands is my thing. There are so many amazing restaurants here. Plus, if you want to feel like you’re in the city, you have that. But if you want the beautiful parks and walking trails of the suburbs, you have that too. I’ll be honest, my days of being out on the town are behind me for the most part. And I’ve lived in the Caribbean, in Europe, and now here. Now I prefer a more low-key life. Anywhere that offers good food and nice patio seating is my flow. Live music doesn’t hurt either.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, Harald. My partner in EVERYTHING! He works behind the scenes for me to live out my calling. He loves, supports, advises, and listens so well. I couldn’t do what I do without Him.
