We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
Oh goodness this is a tough one, because unfortunately in the space I work in there is a TON of misinformation given as well meaning advice. I think the biggest piece of advice I would have to say pushes me on to a soap box every time is when women are told to stop doing a type of exercise for something like pregnancy, diastasis recti, or prolapse. We don’t have any evidence that either of the latter two conditions are caused by or worsened from exercising, and in fact, strength training can HELP prevent or lessen symptoms of both of those. Our bodies are designed in this really amazing way to adapt and grow stronger, and when someone just writes off something and tells someone “don’t ever do a sit up again” or “you won’t ever be able to lift weights again”, they take away a lot of potential for that person to feel strong and capable.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When I graduated physical therapy school, I started pretty quickly working as a clinic director for an outpatient orthopedic clinic. I was commuting every day, and I was frustrated with how many patients I was having to see and how little support I felt like there was in a corporate setting. I felt like there HAD to be a better way, and if I was working so hard for someone else, why couldn’t I do it for myself? It seems silly, but I saw the movie The Greatest Showman and for some reason it struck with me- do something different. Set yourself apart. So I did! I started Disrupt, treating with just a treatment table in the corner of my Crossfit gym, part time. From there, I saw how much I enjoyed setting the rules for my business, and being able to deliver the care I wanted to and felt people deserved. It wasn’t long before I left my job as a director and went all in on Disrupt, all while pregnant with my daughter. During my pregnancy, I started taking courses in working with pregnant women, honestly mostly selfishly because I wanted to continue working out myself and there was so much conflicting information out there, I wanted answers. I ended up having my daughter a month early in February 2020, and then the world shut down in March. Things were up in the air for awhile. I worked PRN with a couple hospital systems, all while trying to navigate new mom life and also building Disrupt. Finally, by September 2020 I was able to dive in and work Disrupt the way I had planned originally. It was AMAZING. Completely through word of mouth and connecting with people in the community, we grew and grew and grew! I specialized more into pelvic floor physical therapy, seeking to give women answer in pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. When I was pregnant with my son in 2022, I knew I had to hire someone to help out with maternity leave coverage. That in and of itself was a rollercoaster, but I ended up meeting and hiring Kassi, who is now my other full time physical therapist! Then, while postpartum and recovering from birth, I reached out to a friend who is a pediatric physical therapist and asked her to join the team, too. So now we offer pelvic floor, orthopedic, and pediatric physical therapy! We’ve grown into an office 3 times larger than what we had before, and have an amazing team. I never would have imagine the growth Disrupt would have from year to year!

Our passion is helping people leave our office feeling stronger, fitter, and more capable than when they started their therapy. Whether it is treatment through pregnancy, recovering postpartum, preparing for labor, or helping a little one tackle their motor skills, our “why” is empowering every single patient that sets foot in our door, and giving them resources that will help support that!

There have absolutely been challenges along the way, I think any entrepreneur will agree that owning a business is like being on a rollercoaster every day. There are days I feel like we are crushing it, and days I panic about the next steps or our momentum. The biggest thing I have learned is to keep your head down and keep moving forward, even when it feels hard and you feel like you can’t.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a sucker for good food, and I recently went to the Post to the food hall and had an absolute BLAST trying something from every restaurant and had the most delicious martini ever. Locally to Spring, Old Town Spring has som serious hidden gems! You can spend an entire day walking around, popping in to stores to shop and grabbing drinks or snacks at so many cool, unique places like Wuensche Bros, Puffabellys, Excalibur, Trilogy Brewing. There’s even a speakeasy!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is no chance I would be where I am without the support of my husband. I like to joke that he is my “yes man”, even sometimes when he needs to be my “no man”. He has always believed in me and made things work when I wanted to chase my next big dream.

From the standpoint of mentorship, I truly attribute the complete change in my practice to taking courses with a company called Institute of Clinical Excellence. From the very first course of theirs I took, my passion for physical therapy was reignited and I have been motivated ever since!

And lastly, our community we are fortunate enough to be in has been huge. Whether it is the community of members at my gym who are always sharing my posts, or rocking my baby while I see a patient, or the community of women in The Woodlands and Spring who have picked us for their healthcare journey and then shared with friends, I am so grateful to be in this place!
