We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Amaya and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It was definitely something very scary to think about ! I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur . Falling in love with photography I really wanted to make something out of it like having my own business . It was a long process and I am still learning from my mistakes everyday , since it does comes with a lot challenges .but the passion I have for it makes me keep going .

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always had a passion for art since I was little . Wether it was drawing or painting . My high school years I participated in rodeo art . I love all forms of art . I studied Art and Design back in college and I had to take a photography course which made me fall in love with photography! . I started taking pictures of nature then I realized I loved capturing moments for people . Capturing moments they can look at for the rest of their lives . It made me realized that I had found my true passion and I wanted to make something more than just a hobby but something I wanted to dedicate myself to . It’ hasn’t been easy . Many times I wanted to give up because I felt like my business wasn’t going anywhere at all . I felt like a failure and at some point I felt silly for wanting to have a photography business when it is such a saturated market . I tried and tried and i would hardly get any clients or bookings . I had people along the way to encourage me not to give up on my self . Success takes time . Although I’m still not where I want to be ,consistency is on of the big keys to running a business . I have definitely seen a lot of progress throughout . I’m glad I didn’t give up how I had previously done . It’s not easy building a business from the ground up. I am still learning and growing everyday but I’m so happy for my journey !

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love to go to “the spot “ it’s such a fun place for pictures and to hang out ! There’s food and a nice view of downtown . Just a fun evening to spend it with friends.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank God above all , my family , my fiancé and close friends . My clients that are who make me the person I am today . I couldn’t be more thankful for my journey and the people who continue to support me along the way !
