We had the good fortune of connecting with Luke Whitney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Luke, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Authenticity. If the brand isn’t genuine, it doesn’t matter. I don’t have any shock factors or gimmicks when it comes to my brand. I just live my life as a kind dude, and as long as folks are living with a sense of dignity and integrity that they stand on, I want the best for people. I have turned down many opportunity’s that could have furthered my career in one way or the other, but whatever it was, it didn’t align with how I operate my brand or lifestyle. So, when it’s all said and done, it’s no sweat off my back because I know I didn’t compromise who I am as a human to get a lil further in the game. That could be a factor for or against the success of my brand but regardless, I won’t succumb to what anybody else wants me to do. It’s whatever I feel God wants me to do, then i’ll make it happen.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am very versatile which has made it hard for me to find an ultimate sound. I tend to fall into more of a bluesy folky soul realm but, I still like to dip in the Hip Hop/R&B feel or add some open cymbals and distortion for the Rock&Roll jam. The music i’ve made lately doesn’t confine me in a box, I create whatever i’m feeling at the time, since I mainly produce and record all the instruments myself.
If you set big goals for yourself, be ready for it to be a long and grueling journey. It hasn’t been easy at all. I’ve put my career in others hands before and it didn’t end up in my favor and that took years away from my progress. I always stayed true to myself and what I thought needed to be done for me, morally and ethically. Which leads me not neccesarily being a christian singer, but definitely being faith based and having God in my songs because as relatable as I am as a person, God is the center of my universe, and the reason for my being.
All in all, i’m just a good ole boy raised in the south that loves God and my family and truly wants everybody to morally and selflessly be their best selves and realize that we are all the same. This life is bigger than us and far more spiritual than anyone seems to give it credit for, and without integrity, humans fail, so love each other because we need each other.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would spend our time outdoors at parks like the memorial park trails, eat mexican food, go see a show, go golfing or just hang out at the house and visit. It’s just me and my wife here really, all of my closest friends from back home in Beaumont are all scattered throughout Texas and Louisiana so this is a realistic answer for whenever we have visitors. They ain’t stayin’ for no week though, but if they did, we would definitely spend our time laughing and catching up.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well first and foremost my support system is my immediate family. My wife, mom, dad, grandparents, siblings, cousins, best friends, everybody that is near and dear to my heart that knows how much my music means to me are my biggest supporters.
Tobe Nwigwe and his whole camp are the sole reason people know who I am round the world. Tobe took me under his wing as one of his background vocalists back in 2019 and we traveled all over America together several times and even got the chance to go to London and South Africa, so I will always tip my hat to Tobe and the Ouu Crouu.
Last but certainly not least, my saviour Yeshua Hamashiach also known as Jesus Christ is the one I look towards for support and guidance above all else to push me forward.
