We had the good fortune of connecting with Hozana Arceri and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hozana, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
I think one of the biggest things to keep in mind when trying to decided to keep going or to give up is the impact it has on others. I think like many giving up isn’t an option but there are times that putting down something can lead to growth in an area that needs it. Now if you are called to something and you know in your heart that it’s something you’re supposed to do, then you absolutely need to push through that wall of giving up. A simple concept is to take it a day at a time, which is something we’ve all heard. But when you put it in practice and focus really hard on winning that day you find yourself more satisfied going into the next day.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a cinematographer, and if you don’t know what that means the way I like to describe it is that I get to creatively tell stories for a living. From documentaries to commercials for your favorite company or business, everything in a film/video is about how you tell a story. I think it’s one of the coolest professions out there because there will never be a shortage of stories and every story can be told a different way. The thing I’m most proud of would be my journey getting to the point I’m at currently. I’m only about 5 years into filmmaking but I’ve learned way more than most and have been given a ton of opportunity. I didn’t start in the film world but rather in photography which is similar but definitely a whole other ball game. What made me lean more towards the video side of things was how I saw I could tell a better story that way. I was helping my wife actually shoot a wedding and the client asked If I could just try video since it was a small wedding and they didn’t hire a videographer. I fell in love with motion on a camera and capturing emotion that moved. Now was it easier than photography? Absolutely not haha. I always laugh when my wife finishes editing a full wedding or photoshoot because I’ll tell her “Wow, must be nice to finish your work”. That’s not because I’m lazy, but it’s because telling a story with video is a much larger task to get right.
If I haven’t said it enough, story telling is the lasting impression I would love others to see in my work…that I am a great story teller. That I lead others in seeing and feeling things they have never felt before or that then needed to experience on a deeper level.

Let’s say your best friend was visit ing the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well for starters the city of Houston is no easy task when it comes to exploring haha. From food to shopping or sports and lifestyle this city has it all. I’m a sports guy at heart so an Astros game is a must, but only if my Yankees are in town 😉 My wife is going to love that this next part is my answer but for food you gotta go to China town for some really good asian food! In Houston there is Tex-Mex on every corner but some of the best in my opinion is a solid food truck. One of my favorite spots for all the above that you have to visit is Post Houston. It is such a creative culture spot with food from all over, and a melting pot of culture. It’s also a creatives field day if you are looking for a great photo op location.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give recognition to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for getting me to where I am today! Without his leading and blessing over my life I’m not sure where I would be, but I know it wouldn’t be this good. There has never been a day He’s left me or didn’t show up when I needed Him most. The talent and skills I have are just the giftings He’s giving me to honor and love Him back, and I gratefully do so! I think my family (Mom, Dad, Brothers, & wife) get some major credit as well! They encouraged me, molded me, and challenged me into the man I am. All you need is someone to believe in you and I had an entire team doing so!
