We had the good fortune of connecting with Abbey Rucker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Abbey, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
My grandmother always told me to follow my heart and do what makes me happy and photography always did just that for me. It was an outlet for me through so many dark times in life and always gave me a reminder of how beautiful life truly is.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For as long as I can remember I’ve always loved to take pictures and capture memories that are dear to my heart. I think at a young age I lost a lot of people in my life and friends and I never got to capture many moments with them on camera and it really sparked a light in my heart to really appreciate every moment I have with the people I love and to take a second to take a picture and capture a moment in time.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think I would definitely start with a local Mexican food restaurant or taco truck after a long flight and then we would go get ice cream or boba tea. Then later that evening we’d go out to the local bars in montrose and midtown and then completing the night at an after hours downtown!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My grandmother is truly the inspiration in my success and love for photography. For as long as I can remember she was always painting and drawing and encouraging us to do the same! She’s always supported me in anything I’ve done and still does to this day.
