We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariana Monterrubio and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mariana, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
During my younger years, taking risks was an innate part of my personality. I was confident in my abilities and decision-making skills. However, as I grew older, I became more doubtful due to external influences. When contemplating risks, I consider the potential consequences, both positive and negative. Is the risk worth taking? I have taken risks with the “better to ask for forgiveness than permission” mindset, and while some outcomes were favorable, others had significant consequences. Through adversity, I learned valuable lessons, and my teenage confidence resurfaced, leading me to take a leap of faith and start a new life. It was through life’s challenges that I discovered my true calling.

My Journey to Empowering Women through MAMI on a Mission, LLC
As the owner and founder of MAMI on a Mission, LLC.  I have dedicated almost 14 years of my life to coaching individuals, both men and women, in finding fulfilling careers. Coaching is something that came naturally to me from a young age, given that I used to translate for my mother. I always had an inclination to help people, but it wasn’t until my thirties that I realized I could turn that passion into a career.

Unfortunately, my first marriage ended in divorce, and I married my second husband. Initially, things were fine, but his addiction to drugs soon took over, resulting in domestic abuse. I was no longer the one who could provide help to others, as I was the one who needed help. Finally, at the age of thirty, I made the difficult decision to leave my abusive marriage and start over.

It was during this period that I discovered my calling to provide support and encouragement to women who had been hurt and lacked the support to pursue their dreams. I went to college to pursue my passion, and my experience working in nonprofits led me to start MAMI on a Mission, LLC.

MAMI stands for Mujeres Alcanzando Metas Imposibles – Women Achieving Impossible Goals. It is a movement dedicated to empowering Latina and all women across the world to pursue their dreams. We aim to create a safe and inspiring environment where women can develop the skills, networks, and emotional support necessary to achieve their impossible goals. Our community of inspiring role models, dynamic workshops, and engaging conversations provides Latina women with a safe space to gain the confidence to set big goals and work hard to achieve them.

At MAMI on a Mission, LLC, we offer 1-1 coaching services, an inspiring podcast, and a guidebook to help women start working towards their goals. My first book, MAMI on a Mission: A Guide Towards Healing, Self-Discovery, and Walking in Confidence, an Amazon Bestseller, is available now. I am here to empower women to reach their impossible goals one dream at a time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend from out of town came to visit, there are plenty of great places to show them around. Tacos are always a hit, so we’d take them to the best local taco spots. We could also take a stroll along the Kemah Boardwalk, visit HAAK Winery, and indulge in some wine tasting along with a delicious meal. A beach day in Galveston is a must, followed by a leisurely afternoon browsing the local shops on the Strand. If we head up north towards Houston, we could check out an Astros game, visit the museum district, or explore downtown. Since I live centrally between Houston and Galveston, there are endless possibilities for good food, fun activities, and memorable experiences.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Micael Deegan (Alva) Author/Podcast Coach and Janine Hernandez, Author and Founder of the Book Publishing Academy for their guidance to start my podcast and also coach me to writing my first book.
