Meet Vempre Terrell, Jr. | Author, Motivational Speaker, and Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vempre Terrell, Jr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vempre, what role has risk played in your life or career?
What if? These are two words that serve as a key reason why I make a sincere effort toward achieving my goals. When points of interest exist in my life, I put forth the best part of my inner spirit to pursue them so that I will ensure that questions surrounding my life will not begin with those two words. Wondering what could have happened in my life if I would have taken the needed risk to make it happen is not something that is a part of my personality. A risk is something that I embrace, and I do my best to reason through why it would be a valuable part of my success in life. Risk-taking has played a key role in my life, especially when it comes to expressing myself through my passion of writing. It seems like yesterday when my written work was first moving from my inner thoughts to the pages of my first book, “The Eyes of Faith.” Now, it is my pleasure to know that taking the risk of becoming a writer has allowed me to touch the lives of my readers.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Expression is a key feature of life that carries over into the form of art that I love the most: writing. Whether I am bored and I pick up a pen and a piece of paper, whether I am stressed and I pick up a pen and a piece of paper, or if I simply pick up a pen and a piece of paper to express a part of myself just for the sake of doing it, writing is something that I love to do. Challenges have stood against me to hold me back from expressing myself through my passion for writing, but becoming a risk-taker has served as a significant strongpoint for me. Stepping out on faith at times when things have appeared to be against me has served to teach me lessons, inspire my writing, and encourage others who have read my writing. Although overcoming challenges that have presented themselves to me has not been an easy task, I have been able to see faith and risk-taking come together to allow me to succeed. If I want my readers to learn one thing from me, it is that taking a risk and keeping the faith are two powerful points to use on the path of life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Downtown! Downtown! Downtown! If there is one place with so much that the whole city has to offer, it is downtown! Anyone who would come to visit me would definitely accompany me downtown so that I could show them around. There is not just one place to be held up when you are downtown. There is so much that the atmosphere has to offer! In addition to being able to enjoy the downtown atmosphere, I would be sure to take my guests to small businesses in the local area. Well-known places of business tend to be the hotspot of a person’s mind when thinking of where to take friends when they are in the area, but small businesses are often overlooked. For me, I love to support up-and-coming businesses to help them take a stand in the business world. If there is anywhere that a person should visit throughout the city, I would highly encourage them to take the time to show support to small businesses.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When it comes to thinking of who I would like to dedicate my shoutout to, it is definitely my family! Each member of my family is there for me on the best days of my life, on the days when I struggle, in times of need, and at times when they can make points of my life better than I ever expected. If there is one thing in life that I encourage others to appreciate, it is family.
