Meet Paula Marval | Makeup Artist & Hair Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Paula Marval and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paula, what are you inspired by?
I remember once when I was attending cosmetology school, I finished doing a clients makeup and once she looked at herself in the mirror, her smile was so genuine. It was exciting to feel that I helped someone see themselves as beautiful on the outside as they are on the inside. The feeling others get after I’m done styling their hair and makeup, has always inspired me. I love making someone feel great with themselves because we all deserve that feeling. My vision has always been to make a bride feel gorgeous on the day of her wedding or a mother taking maternity pictures to see the best version of themselves. My plans are now to try to give that same feeling to as many people as I can. Seeing my clients reaction at the end of the service, inspires me to continue.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I really love what I do. With every client I have, I put 100% of me. I think what makes a difference is carrying about every person’s specific needs. I work hard to make everyone of my clients happy with their hair and makeup. That makes what I do more than just a job. This journey hasn’t been easy, but I believe that everything that I’ve gone through is because God wanted to teach me to be better. I put my faith in God before trying something new or looking for any direction. Without Him and my family/friends I wouldn’t be where I am.
I moved from Venezuela to the US when I was 16 years old, and since I got here I went through many challenges. Leaving my family, learning a new language, differents cultures etc. But I’ve learned a lot along the way and I thank God for every lesson I’ve learned.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One thing I love about living in Houston, Texas is the plethora of things there are to do. First I would drive up to Summermoon Coffee for their delicious treats and Coffee. Then I would drive to the water way in the woodlands for a walk, go to the mall and later, I would drive to the gosling express food truck park for their amazing Venezuelan food, where you can find variety of things to eat and drink. For a night of Latin dancing I would go to Gloria’s at the center of Houston.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my grandmother who has encouraged me to seek my full potential. She has always made me feel that I could achieve anything I set my mind to and that with effort and love nothing is impossible. She is a big part of who I am as a person and as a professional beauty artist. Since before I knew this is what I wanted to pursue, I had her support.
