We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
“Find something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” I Disagree with this because It takes a lot of work to grow a business.. You work at home, on vacation, during the holidays, you never stop. It’s a part of you and because it is a part of you you’ll work tirelessly to watch it succeed.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Hi my name is Jessica, I have been a hairstylist for about three years now. I specialize in Blonding and extensions (Invisible Bead Method certified) but honestly I love to talk all things hair. I have my own suite called JBSalon located in Bellaire, Texas and I love making people feel beautiful. I got to where I am today by staying consistent and being uncomfortable. This answer might sound general but no it’s never easy, anything that requires you to be uncomfortable for a while is tough. No job wants to hear you’re leave to start your own business. However, you have to remind yourself why you’re doing it. Why I chose to go on my own is because I am working towards one day opening up a bigger salon. Going on my own was just the beginning to get the rhythm of things.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Woohooo! Bestie is in town. During the day I am totally taking her to buffalo bayou park to ride bikes and enjoy the city view. I’m a big foodie so I mostly find new restaurants to try. Here are my top 3. Depending on if we’re craving a delicious steak or savory drinks (we always are) my favorite restaurant is Gauchos Do Sul. Outstanding service, all you can eat meat and amazing view. If were learning towards more of a casual night still but still want delicious drinks Vida Mariscos never disappoints plus they have live band on Fridays and Saturdays, sighs me up. Sunday brunch is always a must with my best gals so we will be at Caracol enjoying their buffet.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I Would like to thank my family, my fiancé and my clients for always supporting me. My fiancé has proven that he will always have my back. When I decided to quit my job to pursue my dreams he helped me pay for cosmetology school. My family allowed me to make mistakes, and get creative on them. They were my first clients in cosmetology school and booked the first week that I opened my business. My clients refer me, post me and encourage me to do more. Without the support of my amazing clients I wouldn’t be here.
