We had the good fortune of connecting with AJ Lozano and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi AJ, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
I would say that the most important lesson my career has taught me is that Time is the only thing you never get back, no do overs, no restarts, how you present and/or value yourself and your time matters. Essentially you’re always on stage in a matter of speaking. You never know who you’re going to meet or who you end up talking to on a daily basis, so how you present yourself and value your time when you think no one is looking, matters. So staying positive, pushing forward, and valuing time over all else to rank priorities has been paramount in finding success.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our journey to where we are today has been both challenging and rewarding. Building our business wasn’t easy; it demanded relentless determination and creativity. We overcame obstacles by staying adaptable, learning from failures, and embracing change.

What excites us the most is the impact we make on people’s lives and the community. We take pride in our initiatives to support the Houston Zoo and other philanthropic causes. Through our brand, we aim to inspire positive change and spread awareness about the importance of giving back.

We want the world to know that HTXRugger is not just a business; we are a symbol of passion, resilience, and the belief that every challenge is a stepping stone to success.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So, places to check out would have to be Market Square Park in downtown. With all its surrounding restaurants like Hearsay and The Watch Co. *around the corner or La Carafe settled inside Houston’s oldest building, there’s plenty to enjoy and showcases Houston in the best way. ANYWHERE down Washington Avenue is going to be treat and depending on the time the whole area turns into our version of 6th Street in Austin.
If you’re looking for some great food and a hidden gem feel, Eunice, with Chef Drake is some of the best food in the city to enjoy. Just down the road from there is another hidden treasure named Oishii, some of the best Sushi in the city bar none. The wholesome team works in harmony to deliver expectational service for a great experience everytime.
With our authentic ethic restaurants like Biryoni Pot in the Gandi District and so many more the food scene here like no other in the world. These would be my must tries in Houston.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Everything that I am able to do and be stems from inspiration by a master of her craft, Elisabeth Garza. Elisa’s talents behind the bar are exquisite and her passion for the roles she takes on is aspirational from a 13 year career behind the bar. Her integrity behind her operations and drive behind her ambitions are what sets her apart. Currently the Bar Lead at Sunrise House Houston she’s been recognized for her ambitions and talents as well as allowed the creative freedom sought after for so long. Co-owner of WhiskeyWolf Bartend, Elisa is a powerhouse making her splash on the restaurant & bar scene of Houston.
