We had the good fortune of connecting with Young Picasso and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Young, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I felt like My creativity was being stifled. I worked in the traditional work world for over 10 years and i was never happy. I would always do projects on the side but that wasn’t enough. So one day i decided to take the proverbial leap of faith and do my creative work full time.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Getting where i am today was definitely not easy. There were a lot of sacrifices made and sleepless nights. In the end it was all worth it. I learned to trust myself. I am proud of the fact that i did it. I stepped out on faith and took a chance to do what i love. Young Picasso Artistry isn’t just a brand it’s a way of life. Pablo Picasso painted his way and people just get it. That’s what we are doing, being as creative as we want and people just get it. From photography to t-shirts, if you can imagine it we can bring it to life!!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would eat at my favorite restaurant, Ruth’s Chris first. And no trip to Houston is complete without visiting the Galleria. We would check out the Museum of Fine Arts and take some pictures by the color wall. There are so many quirky places downtown so we would go there too. We would get tattoos at Itching Palms Ink. We would go to Rice Village. It’s so much stuff to do here that a week really isn’t long enough. Lol
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this to my best friend and business partner Kimberly Kne’Cole. She inspired me in more ways than one to pursue self employment. And my kids, i want to show them how important it is to leave a legacy behind!!
