We had the good fortune of connecting with Diamond Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Diamond, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I come from a family of entrepreneurs so the exposure has always been there. As a young girl, I had a dream of becoming a hairstylist and opening my own salon. I was obsessed with braiding my dolls hair and trying different hairstyles on myself, family and friends. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and I thoroughly enjoy creating things that I can share with others. Hairstyling for me is and has always been a natural talent, gift from God, and a gateway for me to connect with others. When it came to choosing a career, I went with what came natural to me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hi, I’m Diamond, owner of Diam Divaz Beauty Bar located in Frisco, TX. I am a hairstylist and salon suites owner. I specialize in natural hair and luxury extensions such as tape ins, keratin tips and micro links. I’m fairly new to Texas. I moved here almost two years ago from Mississippi, where I got my start. In 2014, I attended cosmetology school and went on to open my first salon in 2016. From there, I worked hard to network and build clientele, which opened the door for me to start my first salon suites business in 2019.

What sets me apart from others is southern hospitality. I show up for my people and I try and always make sure the energy is on point. My everyday goal is to connect with my clients. When they spend money with me, I want them to feel at peace. I want them to feel supported and invested.

I am most excited about the fact that I have had an opportunity to skip states and start fresh. This time I didn’t start from scratch, but from experience. I’m grateful to be able to expand my brand and continue to new people.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had to plan for my best friend and I, the first stop would be for food. We are pretty low-key and we are both moms so if we are with the kids, we are going to The Green Gator. The seafood there is bomb and it is a kid friendly environment. If we’re kidless, I’m going to say Haywire. If it’s warm we will order crab dip and chill outside. We love a good farmer’s market. Frisco’s farmers market is my favorite, but I also enjoy the one in Dallas. The Omni Hotel is one of my favorite spots for pool time and they have a spa, so that’s a must.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I want to shout out my heavenly father who has blessed me with the capability to dream and to create. Without him, I am useless. I also want to thank the people that have supported me from the beginning of my journey. Shout out to my grandmother! When I told her I wanted to pursue my dreams of becoming an entrepreneur, her words were few, but powerful. A simple “do what makes you happy!”
