We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Cazares and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I would say one thing about the modeling industry most people are unaware of would be how uplifting it can be. Personally I’ve dealt with a lot of self-image issues and social anxiety. I’d say modeling has helped me see myself in a different light. I’ve found confidence and passion where I didn’t have as much before. I’ve also met so many amazing people while modeling that my social anxiety isn’t what it used to be.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’d say what sets me apart from others would be my dependability and communication when it comes to photoshoots. I started modeling in Louisiana, but I found out I was pregnant with my son and decided to move to the Houston, TX area. It wasn’t easy at first, and I wasn’t sure if modeling was meant for me after having my little one, mainly because my confidence wasn’t what it once was after having him. Once I put myself out there and did my first shoot, I realized how hard I was on myself and that modeling was something that I was meant to do. It helped me build my confidence back and helped me learn to be more social. I’d say I’d want the world to know that, behind the photos and the glam, I’m also a person who struggles with insecurities like everyone else and that doing something that you love can be so uplifting and bring so much positivity to your life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Although I may not know all of the BEST spots, I do know of a few. A few of my favorite places for food would have to be Local Table (Katy,TX), Hedge Hog Grill (Waller,TX), and Tacos y Tortas Adrian (Katy,TX). My favorite place to hang out with a good drink would be District 249 Bar & Grill (Tomball,TX). One of my favorite places to walk around and check out would be the Hermann Park in Houston, TX. There are many beautiful parts of the park.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate my success and passion for modeling to the first photographer/friend I ever worked with, Veronica Davis. She’s a photographer in Louisiana around where I grew up. She saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself, and for that, I’ll always be grateful. If it wasn’t for her, I would’ve never had the courage to even start modeling or be where I am today. I’ve been able to meet so many amazing people living here in Texas because of the chance I was given in Louisiana. A few other amazing coordinators I’d love to shoutout that really helped me grow my modeling career here in the Houston area would have to be Susanne (@stonesthrowfloralco), Caroline (@etherealeventscollective), and Maryjo (@photosnimaryjo). I’ve been fortunate to work with all of these talented women numerous times and they’ve definitely helped pave the way for my success in Houston.
