We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesse Cushman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Papabubble is one of those amazing ideas where we’ve taken something old and made it new again. Our processes have been around for over 100 years, but adding designs in the middle, adding/mixing modern flavors, and other new twists have brought the process into the 21st century. We are constantly experimenting and pushing the envelope to create candies that are both delicious and fun.

I don’t think starting any business is easy. There are many leaps of faith to be taken and it was very scary – still is in some respects. But as we say, nothing ventured, nothing gained. While I hope this is a successful business, and it seems to be headed in that direction, I mostly want to share joy with people. I really love the idea of taking something that I’m passionate about and sharing it with others. With everything going on in the world today, we need more things that create happiness, and hopefully we’re one of them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston has some really great museums. That’s no secret to anyone living here, but for visitors, it’s not usually at the top of the list. Spending time in the museum district is a must.

For food, this city is so diverse that you have amazing restaurants all over the city that showcase authentic food. There’s a little Venezuelan cafe in Upper Kirby called Gusto Gourmet for example – it’s not a cuisine I was very familiar with, and now it’s one of my favorites. I’d put Mala Sichuan and Mastranto’s up there as well for “hidden” gems.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shoutout my family, friends, and investors. Creating a business truly takes a village, and I’ve had support throughout the process. People have given me their time, advice, money, and positivity – I’m truly humbled by it.
