We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelique Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angelique, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I love being an esthetician, but I never wanted to be a business owner. If you would’ve asked me 5 years ago what my dream job was I would’ve said working in a med spa. Once I finished school and actually started working in the industry I quickly realized that my expectations were not being met. I am so passionate about what I do and I always want to give 110% to my clients, but I wasn’t able to do so working for other people. I was so unhappy at my previous job to the point that my mental health was taking a huge toll. I would literally cry at least once a week because I hated not being able to give my clients the treatment they deserved. Then one day I saw an instagram ad for a studio opening up and immediately I knew what I had to do. I would almost say that I was forced to open up Aestheticang because I knew I’d never be happy as an esthetician unless I was able to do things my way. I didn’t do any business planning beforehand, I just scheduled a meeting to visit about the studio rental and agreed on the spot. I loved the location and I had a few months until it would be ready, so I just put on my business owner hat and got to work!
What should our readers know about your business?
I am unapologetically me, and my business/brand 100% represents who I am. I’m so proud of the brand that I’ve created for myself, it’s not for everyone and everyone is not for me. Aestheticang is a hot girl studio that services all of Houston’s hotties. I feel like I was put on this earth to make people feel beautiful and now I get to do that every single day!
Anyone that says starting a business is easy is lying! It is so much work and time and research and money. I thought I’d work less as an entrepreneur, but I’m working 24/7! Even outside of working in the studio there is so much that goes on behind the scenes, but anything worth having takes work!
The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way is to not let the haters dim your light. People are always going to have an opinion but just listen to yourself and trust that gut, babe!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First thing we’re doing is going to Aestheticang to get snatched before we do anything else!
We’re definitely going to dinner at my favorite steakhouse, Steak48. While we’re there we can check out the rest of the river oaks district, it’s so cute!
We love a deal, so we’d for sure go to the Tanger outlets in Texas City!
We’d have to spend a day in Galveston, but we’re not getting in that ocean lol
My best friend is an artsy girly so we’d have to visit the museum of fine arts!
Drinks at Rosewater in Clearlake (a hidden gem)
Brunch, brunch, BRUNCH!!! There are so many good options! Lucille’s, First Watch, Gloria’s, there are just too many to choose from!
Karaoke at Jr’s in Montrose!
Rooftop cinema if the weather permits!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would not be where I am today without all of the love and support from my grandparents!
