We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Virgadamo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Hi there! I’m Amanda Virgadamo, originally from New Braunfels, TX. Growing up with a photographer for a mother profoundly influenced who I am today. She embarked on her photography journey in 1998, back when film was still prevalent and digital photography was just emerging. I was fortunate to be immersed in her world at a young age, assisting during sessions and helping with sales. Witnessing families cherish and commemorate their memories through photographs taught me the value and significance of preserving moments. It became evident to me that photos weren’t merely luxuries but essential keepsakes, especially during times of loss.
My perspective on photography shifted when I married my husband, who served in the army. Stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, I encountered military families facing financial constraints, unable to afford capturing their special moments. This realization ignited a passion within me to make photography accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. Thus, my journey as a photographer began unexpectedly, driven by a desire to serve others and alleviate the barriers to capturing precious memories. Today, I am committed to offering affordable options, ensuring that no one misses out on the opportunity to preserve their most cherished moments.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I find fulfillment in connecting with people, which fuels my passion for photography. One aspect that sets me apart is my dedication to serving various communities. I have a special place in my heart for foster families, often providing free adoption sessions or hosting events to support them. Additionally, I offer complimentary sessions for individuals navigating cancer diagnoses, remission, or terminal illnesses.
While I may not claim to be the most technically proficient photographer, my genuine care and connection with clients distinguish my approach. Many of my clients become like family, and I strive to exceed their expectations with every session. Despite my shortcomings in business savvy, my passion in serving others drives me forward in my professional journey.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Planning a visit for a friend from Tennessee this summer has me excited to showcase the best of our area! We’d kick off with a couple of days at Surfside Beach, soaking up the sun while our little ones frolic in the sand and waves. Upon returning to Houston, a day trip to the zoo would be a must, complete with plenty of snacks for the adventure.
For a memorable evening, we’d indulge in a girls’ night out at The Republic Grille, followed by some adrenaline-pumping axe throwing at Woodlands Axe. Of course, being a photographer, we’d squeeze in some sessions at The Oak Atelier or WG Jones for picturesque moments amidst nature’s beauty. And to unwind, we’d enjoy water activities near Rob Fleming or simply relax at home, savoring the company and the memories we’ve created.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My journey in photography has been shaped by the support and inspiration from my family. My parents, in particular, demonstrated boundless dedication to their craft and community, instilling in me the values of authenticity and compassion. They taught me that genuine connections and going the extra mile for others are invaluable in both life and business.
I’m also deeply grateful for the support of my in-laws, who have played a pivotal role in helping me navigate the demands of parenthood and entrepreneurship. And lastly, my husband, whose steadfast encouragement keeps me grounded and focused amidst the challenges of pursuing my passion. Their love and support have been instrumental in my journey, and I couldn’t have reached where I am today without them.
