Meet Keosha Samuel | Model, Model Instructor, Model Coordinator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Keosha Samuel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keosha, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I am certainly a risk taker. If I can assess the risk is worth the rewards, it’s likely one I’ll take. Over time, I’ve learned that calculated risks force analysis, comprehension, dissection, and proper planning. All of which are transferable skills that are applicable to everyday life. Taking risks has propelled my career further than it would’ve been had I not taken risks. There’s always a chance of failure, but there’s also a great chance of success.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In my quest to broaden the accomplishments I have so far as a freelance model, I have built my reputation as one of Memphis’s most talented models and now one of Houston’s emerging talents.
I am a mother to two children, a body builder, a runway model instructor, a veteran of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, currently serves in the United States Army, and is employed by the Department of Defense. I’m a graduate of Lemoyne Owen College in Memphis, TN with a Bachelor of Arts, and a year away from a Master’s in Education.
Standing at 5’4 with an athletic build, my unorthodox look makes me stand out among my peers. The challenges I face are due to the way I look. I advocate for the untraditional models. I’m not tall enough, thin enough, nor am I tattoo-free, but I have an exceptional walk and a captivating aura that makes me undeniable on the runway. I represent the community of models that don’t fit the standard. I understand how important representation is, so I’m aiming to be one of the faces for women that want to model that look like me. Undoubtedly, I am one of Houston’s newest rising stars.
As an aspiring super model, I strive to become one of the most renowned models of this generation. I am self-taught. Experienced in runway and fashion modeling, I have modeled in several high profile fashion shows as a freelance model to include New York Fashion Week, Los Angeles Fashion Week, and Essence Fest. I plan to become an international model this year. My contributions to my local model community ranges from providing advice to new models and hosting informational events for models to build rapport and unity while acquiring knowledge about what I’ve learned on my journey so far that will help them progress in their own careers. My sought after annual event “PillowTalk” has become quite popular within the Memphis modeling community where I’m from because of its one of a kind theme and the amount of information I pass to upcoming models. I create and compose own material to present each year. This material is also take home reference material for the models that attend. It has aided quite a few models on their journey needing advice and guidance.
What I want the world to know about me is that I am fearlessly and gracefully walking with confidence and poise facing challenges head on. I have a signature walk and can modify my walk to fit any runway style; or requirement. I have mastered all five major styles of runway walks. My lifelong mission is to become a modeling pioneer. With hard work, dedication, discipline, and motivation; I will reach those goals. With each opportunity comes another stepping stone to achieve. I continue to be relentless in my efforts to make history.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being that I’m a new resident of Houston, I haven’t spent much time frequenting different eateries or visited any places to have a good time. I plan to make my way to a full Houstonian experience soon!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Over the years, I have met amazing people that have contributed to the model I am today; directly and indirectly.
Rev. Joe Hunter and Mrs. Trudy Hunter found me in high school. They both played a significant role in my character development. Their youth program G.A.N.G (Gospel at the Next Generation) was pivotal in my life as a teenager. I’m grateful for their guidance and the time they took to help mold me.
Tonisha Wilson is my best friend. When I started my model instructor business, Katwalk with Keosha; she allowed me to practice my blocks of instruction with her. She’s helped me prepare my material for my events, gives sound advice and unsolicited motivation, and she believes in me just as much as I believe in myself. She provides constructive criticism when necessary. I’m eternally grateful for her being in my life.
Amelia Bell has served in my life as the person I’ve consulted with over time about the operation of my brand. She has provided guidance, branding references, and skill development to me to aid in growing and solidifying my role as founder of Katwalk with Keosha. Having someone trustworthy to discuss intimate parts of my business plan with that has been transparent in their efforts to assist me is profound. Not to mention the countless opportunities she has afforded me to showcase my talent.
The Media Block family; the first modeling community I worked with upon my relocation to Houston from Memphis. They gave me my first printed published magazine feature. They continue to keep me involved in their community and keeps me in consideration for opportunities. I am indebted because of their kindness.
LaShondra Williams and Kameereo Crisp, both designers are native to Houston. These designers never hesitate to ensure I have a chance to display my talents and crafts. They have been critical to my journey as a new runway model in Houston. With them, I am able to navigate my way through the city’s vastness to find consistent quality work. Their support has helped me in more ways than I can explain. I’m so happy I met them.
