We had the good fortune of connecting with Elysa Denise Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elysa Denise, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I believe the most important thing I’ve done as a parent, in terms of the impact on my children, is I exemplify a ‘never give up or in’ attitude. I am resilient and I believe that things always get better IF you don’t give up! The only failure is failure to try!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I happened upon this career as a Life insurance agent as a result of a layoff from a firm that I had been employed with for almost 20 years. When the opportunity presented itself, I listened, learned and leaped into it vicariously. I am now a top producer in the industry! What separates me from others in the industry, is that I provide a hands on approach to life insurance. I make sure my clients are educated on how life insurance WORKS for them and their loved ones. My love for my profession and clientele helps me to overcome the many challenges of being an entrepreneur. Although the transition from corporate was challenging, it was well worth it! The lessons of tenacity, steadfastness and resilience that I’ve learned are priceless!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend was visiting my city, Houston, Texas, I would make sure they experienced the following: Historic Galveston Island, lots of fine dining; Asian bistros, Mexican cuisine, etc. We would make a few stops in the River Oaks district for shopping and thrifting, then experience the best brunch spots in Rice Village. Lastly, we would make our way to listen to the best deejay on the planet ( who just happens to also be my daughter) Deejay Maiya Papaya while having a glass of wine.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shout out to my amazing support system; my family! My daughters, Maiya and Nia are my inspiration to keep striving. My grandchildren, Kater and Nasir are my legacy. My Mother, twin sisters, Aunts, uncles, brother in laws, niece and nephews are always supportive and always present. I’m blessed that I ‘get to’ do this life with the best; my family!
