We had the good fortune of connecting with LaToya Pursley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaToya, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Other than deciding to work for me, one of the most important single decisions that I had to make was facing the fact that I had to overcome and remove the fear of failure.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My decision to become a Licensed Realtor came a little later in my life. However, I have always known that I was an entrepreneur and that I was going to be in business for myself someday, and helping others is what I love to do. Even though I went back to school and obtained a Diploma in Surgical Technology, that still was not fulfilling to me. Once I decided that it was time to implement my vision of what I desired my life to be like, I began to search and seek out some of the things that may come along with it, the what-ifs. It was a tough decision because I did not want to fail, and I did not want to give up from failure. So, I began taking the steps to overcome fear and it was not easy. I had to speak it, affirm it, believe it, pray for it, hope for it, sow into it, and most of all have faith and believe that it was going to happen for me. In doing so, there were so many lessons, both hard and easy. so many challenges, big and small, and this is where all the lessons come from. I want the world to know that no matter who you are, where you are in life, or what you have, big or little, there is success, there is hope, there is vision, and there is purpose.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a hard question because I am definitely a homebody, couch potato kind of person, lol. However, because it is Houston and it is known as one of the best places and cities to visit, I do not think we would have a hard time having the best time ever!! We would first visit a few eateries (Soul Food, Jamaican, and 5 star Steak Restaurants) where we can experience exquisite food and service. Next, we would have some happy hour, and cocktail outings (Margaritas and Martinis), preferably somewhere we will enjoy the outdoors and beautiful Southern weather!! Then we would get some shopping in for the nightlife fiesta and vibe to the music, meet new people, and dance the night way!! I would also be sure to introduce my best friends by introducing and connecting them with entrepreneurs in my circle who could contribute to their success and business.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents have always been supportive of my decisions in life. Decisions that were not good and good decisions. Their support is still the same to this present day. I once read the book “Abundance Now” by one of the Best-Selling Authors and Public Speakers, Lisa Nichols. This book made me realize that there are steps to real success. It also inspired me to celebrate every win, especially the small ones. This resonated with me because society can sometimes paint a picture that success is easy, that you can skip 10 to get to 100 (the top) without challenges and failure.
