We had the good fortune of connecting with Vickee’ Armstrong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vickee’, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
My father, Sherman Armstrong. He raised me as a single parent after the untimely death of my mother. In the 1960’s a man raising a little girl alone was not easily or socially accepted. My father encouraged my creativity, and free spirit. He talked to me like an adult and impressed how important education, determination and perseverance were to succeed in life. I had hoped that my father and I would sit out at my fishing hole and talk when I retired from corporate life to buy a farm and run a beautiful event venue. Unfortunately, he died before the dream was realized, but he is memorialized in the business name, My Father’s House,

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I was an executive in the retail development and management industry for 40 years. This included stints with Simon Properties, Tanger Outlets, CBL Properties and the Virgin Islands Port Authority. The last seven years of my corporate career were spent as CEO of a multi-million dollar company. Upon retirement, I began renovating a small homestead farm and incorporated it as My Father’s House Retreat & Farmette, LLC. After three years of renovations, repairs my daughter and I undertook an extensive marketing campaign, In January of 2020, it looked as if our official launch year would be amazing. On March 10, 2020 the pandemic shut down was enacted. It was a very difficult time and I lost everything that I invested in advertising, wedding shows and a long list of other things. Fortunately, the pent up demand has created a banner 2024 for weddings and events.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m all about sharing the pleasures of country life. I’d treat my friends to a day in the life of a farmer. 7;00 am up to feed the chickens and collect eggs, then cut fresh flowers out of the lillie garden to make centerpiece arrangements. After a fresh cooked breakfast. I’d take them to my friends horse farm to ride. We’d finish up the day by inviting some neighbors over, cooking out on the veranda and listening to music. The week would also include a trip to the NC Zoo, and if they visit in September we’d definitely go to the Coltrane Jazz Festival in High Point, NC.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To all the folks who loved and supported me. Parents: Sherman & Edith Armstrong (deceased)
Biological mother: Marguerite Lyde
World’s best brothers; Robert Walker, & Peter Lyde
World’s best sisters: Gloria Myers, Verlin Stanford
My Kids: Pamela Washington, Kendall Johnson and Simone Bryant
I would be most remiss if I did not acknowledge the major role that faith has played in my life. My belief in God and practice of Christ like principles are consistent guides in my personal and business life.
