We had the good fortune of connecting with Brianna Davison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brianna, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process was about the freedom of being able to do things on my own terms and freely pouring into my own visions.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe what sets me apart from others is my ability to bounce back from life’s adversities. In 2014, I moved back home to Memphis, TN after being homeless for almost a year trying to finish school at Paul Mitchell Charlotte. My brother allowed me to stay with him and do hair out of his bathroom. I worked day and night to save up money so I can get my own place. But when I made it to $1,300 I decided to invest it in bundles to start a hair company (which was a big risks for me to take at the time). But I wrote it down and made a decision to step into it. When I say, it went CRAZY! People were pulling up left and right to get hair from me. I was selling out back to back, every time I made a post. Not only was I able to get a new apartment but I had so much clientele that I was able to move into a salon, get a 5 bedroom house, and move into my own personal suite. I say all this to say, you can bounce back from ANYTHING! You just gotta be willing to walk by faith and bet it all on YOU. It’s gonna always be tests, trials, and things thrown at you while you’re building but it’s your response to it that determines how the story ends.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Houston for a week I can see us starting our mornings off with a nice walk/run at Houston Lake part on Redemption Square. We will definitely go by the Galleria Mall at least 3 times before she leaves. We will do breakfast at The Breakfast Club, lunch at BunSlut, and got to HEB to get food to cook for dinner lol. I would definitely have to treat her to Post Script on a Saturday. She’s adventurous like me so we might go hit up H-Town ATV Rentals and ride atv’s like we don’t know how to act! We might even go to by Aquarium one of those days and she likes spicy foods so I may also treat her to Stick Talk Cajun Hibachi. In the midst of us catching up and laughing about every little thing, we will have a good ole Houston time!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I want to thank God for allowing me to do His handy work on earth. I will never forget how nervous and uncertain I was when I installed a wig on a child for the first time. He literally walked me through it step by step. Truth is, I was just as shocked as everyone else was when I see the ending result because I knew I didn’t know what I was doing.
Secondly, I want to give a shoutout to the entire staff at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for creating a safe space for families all over the world and making sure that no child battles cancer alone.
