We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Oliver and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jay, what role has risk played in your life or career?
In my own life, risk-taking has been a significant factor in my journey. Leaving a small town to move to a large city like Houston was a major risk. It required me to adapt, grow, and face challenges head-on. This bold move opened up numerous opportunities that I wouldn’t have encountered otherwise.

Even when risks result in failure, I see it as a learning experience. Failure teaches important lessons, builds resilience, and ultimately pushes us forward. My career has been shaped by willing to take risks, learn from setbacks, and push towards my goals. Embracing risk has not only defined my path but has also been a driving force behind my success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am proud to say that what sets me apart from others is my originality and passion for my career. I believe that true passion is the key to success in any field, and my dedication to my craft has driven me to where I am today. Over the years, I’ve remained committed and enthusiastic about my work in Houston, and I have no plans of giving up. I am excited for what the future holds, knowing that my current efforts are just the beginning of a long and fulfilling journey.

My path to success has not been easy. I have faced numerous challenges, but my unwavering faith and relationship with God have been my foundation. Through good times and bad, I have kept the faith and continued pushing forward, always remembering why I started this journey and who supports me.

What I want the world to know about me is that I am a young woman from a small town with big city dreams. I have worked hard to achieve everything I have, and nothing was handed to me. My brand and my life are testaments to the power of hard work and determination. I hope to inspire others who come from similar backgrounds to pursue their dreams and never give up, no matter the obstacles.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to every single client who took a chance and trusted me to be their hairstylist. Whether you are a returning client or visiting for the first time, your support means the world to me. Each of you has played a vital role in my journey, and I am deeply grateful for your trust and loyalty. Without your continued support, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

I would also like to express my appreciation to my Facebook community. Your unwavering support and promotion of my work have been incredible. Your encouragement has been a significant driving force behind my success, and I am thankful for each one of you.

A special thanks goes to Kelcie, who was my first client in Houston and has become a dear friend. Kelsie introduced me to the idea of working in a salon suite rather than from home, and her belief in my potential helped me take a significant step forward in my career. Her support and encouragement have been invaluable.

Lastly, I want to acknowledge my assistant, who is now an integral part of my business. Her dedication and hard work have been crucial to our success, and I am truly grateful for her contribution.

To all my supporters, thank you. Your belief in me has been the cornerstone of my achievements, and I am profoundly thankful for each and every one of you.
