We had the good fortune of connecting with Claire McInnis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Claire, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Kindness. My life mantra is, “People always remember how you make them feel,” which sounds simple but is very true. You never know what someone is going through behind closed doors and how much a small act of kindness can mean to someone at any given moment. When I look back at my life, I want to be remembered as someone who made everybody feel like a somebody.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I spontaneously bought a DJ board after seeing my friend Phillip play. What started as a hobby has turned into something amazing, and I never imagined I would DJ outside my bedroom.
I’ve dealt with skepticism about DJing, but I always try to just brush off any negativity and focus on improving. The most important things I’ve learned are to stay true to myself and keep doing what I love, regardless of what other people have to say.
DJing lets me share my love for music, and I hope that by sharing that with others, they also can connect and build amazing moments with the people around them.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For daytime activities, I would take them thrifting in Montrose & other hidden gems that I have found in Houston.
For nighttime, I’ve been dying to try Off The Record, so I would selfishly start there. My best friends surprised me and took me to 93′ Til for my birthday this year, so that would definitely be another option. I also love The Flat if we wanted to go somewhere to dance to house music with the best vibes.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have a few shoutouts. Jesse Green (@multiface) has taught me almost everything I know and has become such an incredible mentor to me. He has helped me build such a strong foundation for what I thought was just a hobby. Curtis Pettaway, who owns Dynamic Sound, is also a huge influence in my life. I truly admire him and the mission he is accomplishing through Dynamic Sound.
Finally, I would like to shout out my best friends and family for always being my biggest fans. Having loved ones who support your passions is absolutely invaluable!
