We had the good fortune of connecting with Dj Starr Skywalka and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dj Starr, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is perseverance. When you are a person with a career in creativity, you can find yourself becoming more aware, and sensitive about your journey. The obstacles that you face can be extremely challenging. I had many thoughts of giving up, and quitting, but I have conditioned my mind to never give up under the concept of perseverance. It allowed me to fully appreciate my wins, and it strengthened my patience.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is embedded in my aura. In a market of over saturation you will sometimes find that there are a lot of gimmicks and characters. One of the best things you can do is be who you are. Be yourself. There is not another person who is exactly like me, and that confidence transfers to whatever I am creating. I am proud of the longevity and the impact of those I inspire to create. I love hearing that I inspired someone to contribute art to this world. I am where I am today mostly because of how I treated people, and relationships I’ve created. Talent was only a small piece of it. I want people to know that relativity, is a key to building a community of like minds. Thats the purpose of my brand, to bring like minds together and create beautiful works of art and expression.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m very introverted by nature, so my ideal hangouts are house parties, and kickbacks.. However, Houston does have some absolutely great places with good energy. A few that I like are Red Light Tuesdays at Urban Social. R&B Wednesdays at Uptown Hookah, Thursdays at Williams Smokehouse in Sugarland, and The unstoppable Grooves of Houston for Friday Happy Hour, and Saturday Brunch, Sundays are crazy! If you are from out of town, NEVER leave Houston on a Sunday. You can bar hop on Emancipation Ave. Or hit Chapman and Kirby in East Downtown
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A couple of books that helped me tremendously are Atomic Habits by James Clear, and Mindset by Carol Dweck.
