Meet Madison Schulz

We had the good fortune of connecting with Madison Schulz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madison, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I started Rock Island Creations, my goal wasn’t simply to offer social media management or content creation services. I wanted to create a business that clients genuinely enjoy working with. I’ve always believed the best marketing comes from truly understanding a business, including its people, its story, its day-to-day operations, and what makes it unique.
Rather than being an outside vendor who drops in occasionally, I strive to become an extension of my clients’ teams. I want to be involved, ask questions, learn their goals, and capture the real moments that make their business special. Whether I’m creating content, managing social media, updating a website, or helping with marketing strategy, I want my clients to feel like they have someone in their corner who is invested in their success.
At the heart of it all, I wanted to build a business centered around relationships. Marketing should feel authentic, collaborative, and enjoyable, not like another task on a never-ending to-do list. My goal has always been to make the process easy for business owners while helping them tell their story in a way that genuinely connects with their audience.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Professionally, I got where I am today because of the support of my family, friends, mentors, and the clients who were willing to take a chance on me. Building a business has not been easy, and there were many moments where the biggest challenge wasn’t the work itself… it was overcoming self-doubt. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve questioned whether I was capable, experienced enough, or ready. But every opportunity I was given helped me realize that we’re often capable of far more than we give ourselves credit for.
Entrepreneurship runs deep in my family, and I truly believe that owning a business and serving others is something I was called to do. From a young age, I watched family members build businesses through hard work, relationships, and perseverance, and those lessons shaped the way I approach Rock Island Creations today.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of kindness, patience, and honesty. Every interaction is an opportunity to build a relationship. You never know where a conversation may lead or when someone may come back into your life. I believe treating people well is one of the most valuable things you can do, both personally and professionally.
I’ve also learned that mistakes are inevitable. No one is perfect, and business ownership certainly humbles you. When mistakes happen, I believe in owning them, being transparent, and making things right. Clients trust you not because you’re perfect, but because you’re honest, dependable, and committed to doing your best work.
More than anything, I want people to know that Rock Island Creations was built on relationships. My goal has never been to be the biggest agency or the loudest voice in the room. I simply want to be known as someone who is easy to work with, genuinely cares about people, and provides a service that clients feel confident recommending to others. If my story inspires anything, I hope it encourages others to take a chance on themselves, trust the timing of their journey, and remember that success is built one relationship at a time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting Houston for a week, we’d spend a lot of time exploring the city and taking advantage of everything it has to offer. One of my favorite things about Houston is that there’s truly something for everyone. The city has so much energy, but at the same time, everyone seems to be doing their own thing, which gives it a really unique feel.
We would definitely spend a day shopping and exploring places like the Galleria and Memorial City Mall. I love walking around and discovering new stores. As a huge coffee lover, a stop at La La Land Kind Cafe would be a must. I probably drink more coffee than I should, and it’s one of my favorite places to grab a cup and catch up with friends. Houston is also known for its incredible food scene, so we’d spend plenty of time trying local restaurants and finding new favorite spots. No matter how many times I visit, there always seems to be somewhere new to try.
I’d also make time for the Houston Zoo. It’s been years since I’ve visited, but it’s one of those places that brings back great memories and reminds you how much there is to experience right in your own backyard!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would dedicate this shoutout to the people who have taken a chance on me and trusted me with their businesses. Starting a business is exciting, but it’s also challenging, and every client who gave me an opportunity played a role in helping Rock Island Creations grow into what it is today. Their trust means more than they probably realize, and I’m incredibly grateful for every business owner who has invited me into their world and allowed me to help tell their story.
I also owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to my family and friends. Their support, encouragement, and belief in me have carried me through the highs and lows of entrepreneurship. When you’re building something from the ground up, there are moments of doubt and moments when giving up feels easier than pushing forward. Having people in your corner who continually remind you why you started and encourage you to keep going makes all the difference.
