We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Adebayo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joseph, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
At the age 17 I had a very strong love for fashion and back then I was living in Nigeria so I started learning how to make clothes for myself and friends. Few years later my family moved to the United state which made me sad because I did not know if would be able to make clothes in the United state, but someone close to me showed me how I can actually keep making clothes here and even turn it into a clothing brand for my Nigerian people that lives in the United States, that was when I came up with the business name JKT FASHION which is the first initials of my full name Joseph, kehinde, temitayo. That’s how I started my business at the age 20.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What set me apart from other is that I provide the best service possible to everyone that I make an outfit for so they can always come back. I am excited about how my business turned out to because if I look back few year from now I would not believe this was going to be the turn out and that only makes me super proud of myself for not giving up. I got to where I am today professionally by investing more into my business like buying an embroidery machine to better my work and to also make it easier to make beautiful patterns and designs for my customers. No it was not easy at the beginning but with hard work, dedication and a lot of prayer I was able to overcome the challenges. The lesson i learned along the way is that never give up on your passion and dreams. And when you do something you love make sure that every single moment counts because that’s what set you up for your future success. I am a fashion designer located in Houston tx. My brand is still growing and i can’t wait to show the world what JKT FASHION is about.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to some nice African restaurants in Houston like Amala zone, aria suya and kffo. Then we can go out to get drinks later or maybe end up at a lounge to have a good time.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes shoutout to my friends and family that supported my business at the very beginning because they were the ones that actually believed in me when i started my business. Without them there would not be a JKT fashion. Also shoutout to all my customers for always coming back and that keeps referring my business to other people because their support means a lot to me.
