We had the good fortune of connecting with Jayleen Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jayleen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my business to give back to local rescues and shelters. After rescuing and fostering for many years I wanted to do much more. I knew I could create something that would make a difference with my talent for baking and my love for dogs. At just the age of nine, I officially started my own business 4 Dogs Barkery. I make a variety of organic treats for both cats and dogs, each with its unique benefits, dog cakes, pup cakes, and much more.
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart from others is the homemade peanut butter we use in our recipes. We prioritize the health and safety of your fur babies. Our peanut butter is crafted with just one simple ingredient, ensuring that your pets receive nothing but the best. What makes me so proud is everything, I’ve accomplished at such a young age, I’m so grateful for the support from my family. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve learned valuable lessons along the way: to not be so hard on myself, to avoid comparisons with others, and to celebrate every milestone, no matter how small. My goal is to inspire young entrepreneurs to chase their dreams. Remember, you are never too young to start a business and make a difference in your community!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First, I would take them to The Hidden Garden Tacos in Pasadena. My favorite item to order is a torta! The way they crisp the queso and layer everything together is simply delightful. My mouth waters just thinking about it. This is a wonderful family-owned small business that offers daily specials. I would also love to take them to Pleasure Pier in Galveston on a nice day; my favorite ride is The Pirate’s Plunge. Additionally, we must visit Jones Hall to watch the Houston Symphony perform. As a bassoon player myself, I enjoy listening to and discovering new music. Discovery Green is beautiful and hosts many events. Houston is filled with small businesses, so we would explore various shops and markets.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am deeply grateful for the support I’ve received from local shelters, my teachers, the community, and especially my family. My dad deserves special recognition; he taught me how to bake, helped design my first logo, and launched my website. He has been my rock at every market, never missing a chance to help me set up. His intelligence and dedication inspire me every day, and I’m thankful to have him by my side on this journey.
